The Timer is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. It controls the electrical components and the timing of the drying cycles, ensuring clothes are dried according to the selected settings. This timer manages the duration of each cycle, turning the dryer off when the cycle is complete.

Over time, the timer can fail due to wear and tear, electrical malfunctions, or internal component damage.

Symptoms of a bad timer include:

  • The dryer not advancing through cycles
  • The dryer running for an unusually long time
  • The dryer not turning on or off at the appropriate times
  • Irregular or incomplete drying cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Timer (Part Number: OEM18028944)

AJ, Are you sure there's proper voltage at the wall outlet and terminal block on the back of the dryer? Check for a "closed circuit between the L and M terminals on the timer, with a selection made, then check from the M to S terminals when the timer dial is pressed, there should be a " momentary" circuit when the dial is pressed and should open when the dial is released. If all's OK check the wiring between the door switch and motor and the timer and the motor for loose connections or broken wires.

Javy, A quick easy check, Set the dial to the timed dry setting and start the dryer, let it run 10 minutes or so, if the timer dial advances, the timer isn't the problem. The resistor is attached to the proper terminals, and as long as you have 3 to 4 ohms resistance across the resistor wires, it's alright, too. With this type dryer, the dryer has to heat properly in order for the timer to advance in the auto cycles. your first check needs to be to the exhaust vent and vent hood, make sure there aren't any kinks or clogs and the vent hood isn't blocked or collapsed.

Hello JD. Make sure the door switch is good and check the thermal fuse LA-1053. Either will prevent the dryer from running.

Hello Phillip, This could be the thermal fuse LA-1053. If you test and it is bad, be sure to clear the exhaust duct, (full 4 inch diameter duct all the way to outside), since this is the cause of the thermal fuse failure. If it tests good, the issue can be either the door switch WP53-0148 or the timer WP53-1810.

Jim, It's not likely the timer WP53-1810 It's more likely a weak motor W10410996 or low/borderline voltage to the dryer. Overheated motor bearings or low voltage, will change the sound of the motor when it starts and runs due to the excess "drag" on the motor.
