  • Directs pressurized wash water to the upper wash level for thorough cleaning
  • Rotates under water pressure for even spray coverage
  • Helps clear food soils and detergent residue from dishes and glasses
  • Common symptoms: poor cleaning on the upper rack, spray arm not spinning, clogged or cracked arm
What's included: 1 upper spray arm Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and shut off the water supply before servicing
  • Open the dishwasher; remove the upper rack if needed for access
  • Release or unthread the retainer and pull the old arm straight off; clear debris from the hub/feed port
  • Seat the new arm and secure the retainer hand-tight; ensure the arm spins freely and run a test cycle

For Whirlpool Upper Spray Arm (Dishwasher) (Part Number: OEM18038922)

Roger for Model Number Kenmore 665.17032403

The Arm-Spray AP3777639 on my Kenmore dishwasher is clogged and I want to replace it. But I also notice that when the upper rack is pushed back and the water manifold nozzle is engaged in the water feed tube, that the upper spray arm rubs the spray arm manifold a little at the water feed tube end. If I use my thumb and forefinger to push the arm-spray upwards against the wash arm mount (AP3081228), and then rotate the spray arm, it clears the spray arm manifold fine. What I would like to know is whether the slight rubbing and “sloppiness” in the connection between the spray arm and the wash arm mount is normal or is the ? inch or so play in the connection an indication that the wash arm mount is worn and needs to be replaced. The upper spray arm seal appears to be intact, so I do not think that is a contributing factor in the sloppiness of the connection. (Or does water pressure elevate the upper spray arm so that it clears the manifold?)

Roger, There will be a little play in the spray arm but an inch seems to be a bit much. It sounds like the mount may be worn.

Stan R. for Model Number 665.17379301

Finally, thanks your efforts in assisting me in diagnosing what could be potential problem for not functioning during the washing cycle. Frankly, I could not understand why the draining cycles of was working and not during the washing. Now I know, as you mentioned, there are two motors; one for washing and another for draining. I am puzzled by the fact that the Sears Repair Parts List does not show or list the Drain Motor part #Ap3133590. Do you know why? Or this motor is a part of “Wash Motor Assembly (part #AP4434617)?

1 Answer

Hello Stan! The manufacture does list the drain pump motor in their diagrams and parts lists as item 17, our part number WP661658. This is not apart of the wash motor assembly part number W10782773. Thanks!

Hello Stan. WP661658 is the drain pump motor and is located under the dishwasher on the side sump housing assembly. The drain hose will be hooked to it. Hope this helps.

Hello Stan. No, this unit has a drain pump motor and a wash motor. If there is power to the wash motor, and it does not run, replace the wash motor assembly W10782773. Hope this helps.

Hi Stan. Is the rear water tube going up the back wall connected to the back of the wash plate ? Remove the front lower kick plate and see if when you are in the wash cycle the motor assy. is energised. If not then verify with a volt/ohm meter for 120 vac on the blu/wht and blu/red wires. If you are getting 120 vac from the control board then you know the board and the wires to the motor are good. Motor part # WPW10757217. Check board output on the p5 and p9 for 120 vac. If not then you will need to replace the control board part # WP8564543. Remove the top sump covers and See if there are debris stuck in the impeller blades or at the chopper blade. This will stop pressure also. Thank You.
