This genuine replacement part is a gas valve for stoves. The gas valve is the part that attaches to the burners allowing for gas to flow through, creating the necessary conditions for the stove to produce a flame. If the stove is no longer sparking a flame, or the burners are not working properly, the gas valve of the stove will need to be replaced. Luckily, this is a relatively simple repair. To get started, make sure that the stove is unplugged. After that, remove the grates, burner caps, and burner bases from the stove. Then proceed to remove the control knobs from the stove. Using a screwdriver, remove the screws securing the orifice holders to the main top. Once removed, lift off the top panel of the stove. Lift the seal from the valve stem and detach the spark switch. Proceed to remove the tubing from the valve. After that, use a socket or nutdriver to unthread the screw to release the valve bracket from the manifold. Once this is complete, detach the old gas valve. Install the new valve by positioning it on the gas tubing and manifold. Thread the nut to reconnect the gas tubing to the valve. Proceed to reinstall the top panel of the stove. This OEM part is sold individually and is compatible with Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, and Roper brand stoves.

Dennis, Based on the information you will want to access the burner tube by removing the oven bottom and check the tubing for rusting. This would be the most common reason for the unit to spark but not to light even with the gas smell.

Hello Dmfx, There will always be a bit of a gas smell from a gas unit during initial ignition. The unit has to open the valve then get it lit. During this time, a gas smell that dissipates is normal.

Rick R. for Model Number KGSI901PBS01

So the problem that Im having is that the units broil and bake burners wont ignite. when I tested the valve I put the meter on the wrong leads. I went red to blue and got 5.9 then I went orange to blue and got 200.7. I dint know I was suppose to go 1 2 and then 3. but when I try to ignite the oven I hear two muffled cliks coming from the valve. because the surface burners are igniting and the igniters in the oven isn't clicking Im thinking it might be the spark module. any guess?

1 Answer

Rick, Try this, place your meter leads across the orange and red wires of the gas valve solenoid (with the wires attached), make and start a bake selection and check for 8 to 18 volts DC. Repeat for the orange and blue wires and make a broil selection. If the DC voltage is present, then the module should be OK, and the issue should be in the gas valve solenoids.

Hello Ken, You would want to do an amp draw on the oven ignitor. You should be getting between 3.2 and 3.6 amps WP8054129. If you are not then you need to replace the ignitor. You can also check the resistance of the gas valve WP9763716. Should be 216 ohms between bake and common and broil and common.
