The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This valve controls the flow of water into the washer, allowing it to fill with the correct amount of water during the wash and rinse cycles.

Over time, the water inlet valve can become clogged with debris, develop electrical issues, or wear out, leading to problems with the water flow. Causes of a bad water inlet valve include mineral buildup from hard water, internal component failure, or damage to the valve body.

Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve include:

  • The washing machine not filling with water
  • Slow or insufficient water flow into the washer
  • The washer filling with water when it should not
  • Unusual noises during the filling process
  • Leaks around the valve area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18071313)

1 Answer

Ned, the washer will intermittently activate the hot water valve during a cold water wash to maintain a specific temperature. However, if the hot water is coming in continuously and not stopping until the water is up to the set level, the thermistor W10876654 on the valve would need to be tested for resistance. At room temperature, it should measure between 40K to 50K Ohms. If the thermistor tests good, the main control W10480274 would be the cause of failure.

Bill, Put the unit into a service diagnostic mode and see if there are any stored error codes. Also, check to make sure that the cold water screen on the water valve is not clogged. If there are no error codes and the screen is not clogged then the control board would be the likely problem.

Peter, as this model is a High Efficiency model, it can be common for a little bit of the clothing to be exposed above the water fill line. However, if less than half of the clothes are above the water level, the water valve WPW10683603 would need to be checked to ensure that there is proper water flow from both the cold and the hot side. If there is, the failure would likely be in the pressure sensor built into the main control W10582044.

Ron, Obviously, make sure the hot water valve is turned on. You should check the screen of the hot water line. It is possibly filled with debris from the hot water tank sediment. Clean and retry, if no success you would have to replace the water valve. WPW10683603

Jim Scheidel for Model Number 8TW4676BQO

This washing machine came with the house. Apparently this washer has a sensor for the wash water temp settings. The warm water setting is more to the cold as there is no difference between the cold and warm setting. If I select hot (slow water flow same as cold flow) after it has flowed for awhile then both the hot and cold water comes on at a much higher flow for awhile and then will go back to hot at a lower flow. From what I have read is that if the warm water is set at a colder temp then what I would consider warm. It's a pain in the you know where to have to be manually selecting between warm and cold to get warm water to wash my work clothes. My older washer didn't have this problem. Can the sensor be removed so when I select warm I get a mixture of both hot and cold? If not I will definitely replace it with a washer that works like the one I left in our old house. When I select warm I want warm not what EPA or some other source may have mandated.

Jim, Unfortunately the sensor cannot be removed from the unit. This unit will adjust the temperature of the water based on the setting and is no way to change this.

Martin, Unfortunately there would be no way to pull the screens out. You would want to just try to spray out the screens and use a toothbrush to clean out.

Tim, The warm setting will dispense cold based on the water temperature coming into the unit but sounds like you may have an issue with the thermistor on the valve. Also with water dripping in then this will likely be the valve not fully seating and will require a new valve WPW10683603.

Hello Kenzie, I'm sorry but the filters are not available individually. You would have to order the valve assembly WPW10683603 to get these filters. The only thing we could suggest is to add in line filter screens 285452A in the washer supply hoses.
