The Spin Tube Thrust Washer is an OEM component for Whirlpool washing machines. It is a washer that fits around the agitator shaft and helps create a seal between the agitator shaft and the aluminum tub. This washer allows the agitator to spin freely during the wash and spin cycles without causing excessive vibration or noise.

Symptoms of a bad spin tube thrust washer include:

  • Noises like banging or clunking coming from the agitator area
  • Shaking or vibrating of the washer tub during spinning

Causes of a bad thrust washer include normal wear and tear after extended use. Exposure to extended periods of unbalanced loads can also put excessive strain on the washer components and lead to premature failure of the thrust washer seal.

This replacement part is also compatible with select Kenmore, Maytag, KitchenAid, and Jenn-Air models.

Tony, more than likely the clutch assembly [285785] is going to be the issue. You will want to check to ensure that the motor coupling [285753A] is in good condition because if it is not securely on the motor, it can cause the basket to not spin properly.

Other components such as the rotor position sensor WPW10178988 or harness for it and the motor harness can also be the cause.

James, You will want to check to make sure that the agitator is moving in the wash cycle. Also check to make sure that motor is running. If the motor is running but the agitator is not turning then the issue will most likely be in the gearcase of the unit.

Hello Andrea, The first suspect is the lid switch 285671. If the motor is humming but not starting, you should make sure the capacitor wires are still properly connected and nothing is in the drain pump. If nothing is between the tubs and the motor coupler is ok, the problem could be in the brake and/or clutch assemblies.

Hello Manny, This is going to be the drain pump WP3363394 leaking. If the motor shaft is rusting, be sure to sand it off and put a thin layer of grease or petroleum jelly on the shaft since it will rust if not.
