The Blower Wheel is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This component is crucial for the proper circulation of hot air within the dryer drum, ensuring efficient drying of clothes by directing airflow through the drum and out the exhaust.

Common causes of a bad blower wheel include accumulated lint and debris obstructing the wheel, physical damage from foreign objects, or general wear from prolonged use. A faulty blower wheel can significantly reduce drying efficiency and may cause the dryer to overheat.

Symptoms of a bad blower wheel include:

  • Longer drying times for clothes
  • Unusual noises during the drying cycle
  • Overheating of the dryer
  • Poor airflow from the dryer vent

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Blower Wheel (Part Number: OEM18031815)

1 Answer

Jersey, Thanks for the question!!! The rear left would be the gas burner and duct. The rear panel comes off the back of the dryers so you can look to see what is going on.

Bill, This blower wheel will have a reverse threading and will need to make sure that you are turning it correctly. Also try to use some penetrating oil on it to loosen it.

Tom for Model Number WED6600VW0

My dryer (Whirlpool Cabrio Steam WED6600VW0) is leaving clothes damp, and is putting up an "AF" code. To fix the airflow, I have cleaned the lint trap, replaced the duct hose from the dryer exhaust, and cleaned the house flue with an extendible brush. When I remove the duct hose while the dryer is running, I feel airflow coming out of the hose, but fairly weak. I have taken the back off the dryer and removed the blower housing. The foam seal around the housing has been worn away, and needs to be replaced. The blower wheel seems fine, and turning it turns the dryer drum as well. Since this model has the drum and the blower wheel on the same shaft, I *think* that the motor is OK. Could there still be a problem with the blower wheel, and if so, how do I check for one? Thanks!

Tom, You will want to remove the lint filter duct and check to make sure that it is not clogged up which would cause this issue.

Tom for Model Number WED6600VW0

My Whirlpool Cabrio Steam Dryer (model WED6600VW0) has airflow problems. I have cleaned the dryer vent, replaced the hose connecting the dryer vent to the house vent, and cleaned the house vent with a vent brush. Taking off the vent hose, I felt hot air coming out, but at a very low rate, and there was also condensated water in the vent. Taking apart the dryer, the blower housing foam seal is breaking apart, but the blower wheel seems OK - turning it also makes the drum turn. I want to replace the foam seal for sure, but should I replace the blower wheel as well? I'm not sure what else can be causing bad airflow - the dryer is heating, but it is very humid inside while drying. Is there anything else that can be causing this? Thanks!

Tom, You will want to pull the duct venting where the lint filter is and make sure that it does not have heavy lint build up in there as it sounds like it may clogged.

Hello Kenneth. Make sure the inside of the dryer vent is clean around the blower wheel. Also check for a grounded element causing it to stay on.

Diane, You will want to test the thermal fuse on the blower housing to make sure that the fuse has continuity. If it is blown then you will want to check the venting of the unit and make sure that it is clean from the lint filter duct to the outside of your home.

Hello Rich. Just bust off the plastic and then you should be able to access the coupling part that screws onto the motor shaft and unscrew the coupling off the motor shaft.

Chuck for Model Number mgdc300xw1

Hello ..my dryer still makes noise. I replaced the pulleys, idler and the belt. I was wondering if it is the blower fan? It still drys very good and there is alot of airflow coming from the the vent. My older dryer by maytag had fan Y303836 that would constantly round out the inner nub, causing this type of noise (it would also take long time to dry items). However, my current dryer MGDC300XW1 has a threaded on fan(no longer a d shaft), but the noise sounds the same(like a warbling fan). I am having hard time believing it is the fan given this new design and it still drys good ....but not sure what else it could be.

1 Answer

Chuck, It still could be a cracked blower wheel or something wrapped around the blower or motor shaft and "tapping" the blower housing. If there is a cracked or broken blower vane or rail the wheel will go out of round and tap, it could also be a build up of lint on a couple of vanes causing the wheel to "wobble" like an out of balanced wheel.
