• Light not working

When diagnosing the problem, I discovered that the ice door was not properly sealing and that the solenoid had appeared to rust/corrode forcing the door open. I replaced most of the ice dispenser internals (solenoid, crank, door, and spring) following the video. The door will now open when dispensing ice (which it does!), and will oddly stay open for a few seconds once I am finished, but does seal properly and the chute/container no longer frosts over. Firstly, the Ice Door had a kink in the edge, which caused it to stay open and create lots of frost on the coils. $5.00 part, highly recommend it. (By the way, the new door was little too big and it too stay propped open and left a gap so I had to trim the top edge of the rubber with scissors to get it to fully close.) First replaced defrost timer which tested OK - but reasonable price and easy to replace. When that did not fix the problem replaced the defrost thermostat and defrost heater. That fixed the problem. However all three parts tested OK ?? May have been a loose connection or intermittent problem with one of the parts. Final cost for all three parts was much cheaper than a service call!! Read more

Removed upper frig & lower freezer back evaporator covers to get to the frost buildup on the evaporator assembly. I then used a paint stripper heat gun to melt the ice build up caution should be used to keep the gun moving around as not to damage Wires,Eva,Sensor's. IMPORTANT: Defrost heater was more difficult to install around the evaporator coils than the APP installation videos show, but it can be installed. See below. FIRST: Unplug the fridge/freezer! After doing some research, I guessed it was either a faulty defrost timer, defrost thermostat, defrost heater, or some combination of those. Using part location diagrams for my Amana BC120TW I started by looking for the evaporator coils since they obviously weren't producing enough cold. Upon removing the evaporator coil cover, I found the evaporator coils frozen into 1 solid block of ice. Replaced the defrost heater, Temp sensor, and defrost thermostat. I'm pretty sure the defrost heater was the only faulty part, but I replaced the other parts to be safe. Took me about 20 minutes start to finish. I know the defrost heater was bad because it failed the continuity test. Parts were delivered within 3 days! Shut off ref for 2 hrs. Restarted and it made 1 batch of ice cubes which melted in a couple hours. Got the model # but couldn't find the part that looked like mine. Called APP.com and we matched it perfectly in 2 min. Very simple repair! Read more

White Westinghouse refrigerator door was accidentally left open over night when it was humid, and moisture condensed on the interior. In the morning the arc fault circuit breaker was tripped. I removed the shelves and the shelf holders, took the back panel off, loosened the evaporator. Removed the heater element and the thermostat. Re-installed the evaporator the back panel, shelve holders and shelves. Then I located the defrost timer in the refrigerator. Read more
