Broken ice dispenser button Thomas R. • Glen Burnie , MD • September 09, 2019
Replaced it. Ordered the dispenser cover because the repair guy said they usually break the plastic tabs removing the cover. I didn't and reused the old one. Just need to be careful removing the old one. Cover just pries off. Simple to replace.

Compressor tried to start after defrost & stops quickly freezer temp too warm. Michael B. • Concord , NC • March 29, 2021
I don’t think I needed the capacitor and relay, but while I was at it I figured I would.
Originally we found we had an issue when water cane out of the ice maker. The freezer was hovering around freezing and the refrigerator was about 33 deg. I unplugged the refrigerator and it came back on and ran about a day. The next night, same thing. This time cycling power did not seem to help. Removing the rear cover where the control board was and moving it around allowed it to turn on next time I...

I had no cooling in the upper ( not freezer) section of my frige Alexander M. • Gloucester , MA • August 23, 2015
I had had the same problem 4 or 5 years ago and spent close to $200 to repair it.
I did have the slip from that repair with part #'s so I went ahead and ordered a defrost timer and thermostat.
You-tube had plenty of videos on replacing those parts and even before they arrived I was able to add a switch and bypass the broken thermostat and start a cycle manually with the timer. (which it seems was was still functional).
Between that and cycling some ice packs up from the still working...

The Control Board is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool bottom-mount refrigerators. It serves as the electronic control module located inside the unit.
Symptoms of a malfunctioning control board include:
- Failure to achieve proper refrigerator and freezer temperatures
- Sensors, displays, or timers showing inaccurate readings
- Unpredictable fluctuations in cooling performance
- Inability to adequately regulate humidity levels
Causes of a bad electronic control module often include failure of internal temperature or humidity sensors over extended use. Exposure to rapid fluctuations in conditions inside the fridge can potentially damage circuitry.
This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, and Kenmore bottom-mount refrigerators.

- Use ESD protection and handle the board by the edges
- Photograph/label all connectors; transfer any jumpers or settings from the old board to the same positions if present
- Inspect wiring and connected components for shorts before restoring power

Had error code sy ce. Robert G. • Rockwood , PA • October 16, 2019
I order both boards because everyone said one board did not fix the problem, until they ordered the other board because the new board does not communicate with new one. Well I replaced the board behind where the error was. That seemed to fix the problem. I never changed the main board under the fridge. So I would say try ordering the board behind where error code is. See if that fixes the problem before ordering both boards.

The refrigerator was operating in an unusual manner. The freezer would get abnormally cold even when set at the warmest temp on the dial. Then the refrigeration area was too warm. Greg T. • Boulder , MT • March 23, 2014
I took the bottom tray out of the freezer and found the coils iced up severely. I was reasonably sure the defrost timer was the problem and your tech said that was a good possibility. Ordered and replaced timer. (15 minutes) Problem fixed!!! Saved purchasing a new fridge at big bucks. We live over 40 miles from a service center so the cost of having a tech come out is astronomical. Thanks!!!

- Opens (or closes) the electrical circuit to prevent overheating or activate cooling functions
- Common symptoms: no heat or intermittent heating, unit won't start or shuts off during use, cooling/vent fan runs constantly or never turns on
- Useful diagnostic clue: faulty thermostats may test open or stuck closed at room temperature
What's included: One thermostat Install notes:
- Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing; if used in a microwave, be aware the high-voltage capacitor can retain a dangerous charge
- Note wire locations; transfer one lead at a time and secure the thermostat in the original mounting position for proper sensing
- Ensure clean metal-to-metal contact with the mounting surface; do not overtighten screws
- After installation, restore power and verify normal operation
