Took the chance that the $900 Control Module part was the real problem and replaced it. Problem solved. After the new Control Module was installed and working I opened the plastic clamshell surrounding the old Control Module which confirmed the faint electronics burning smell I had detected while running diagnostics. The washer outer tub is the stationary perforated drum that houses the inner wash basket and contains wash water during cycles. Replace when you notice cracks, persistent leaks from the tub area, or excessive vibration that can't be corrected by leveling.
This is the rear outer tub assembly for a front-load or top-load washing machine, including the bearing and seal pre-installed. The outer tub holds the wash water and supports the inner drum as it spins. Replace this assembly if you notice loud rumbling or grinding noises during the spin cycle, water leaking from underneath the machine, or excessive drum wobble - all signs of worn tub bearings or a failed seal.
Outer tub assembly includes: outer tub, tub seal, drive shaft and bearings. To rebuild the tub, order the bearing and tub seal kit W10435302 and the bearing installation tool W10447783.
