This is an electromechanical defrost timer that controls the automatic defrost cycle in a refrigerator. It periodically switches the compressor off and activates the defrost heater to melt frost buildup on the evaporator coils. Replace this timer if your refrigerator is not defrosting properly, frost is building up excessively on the back wall of the freezer, or the compressor runs continuously without cycling into defrost mode.
I replaced the Thermostat and Defrost Timer. It was a fairly easy repair other than removing the old Defrost Timer. The way the manufacturer, in this case, Amana, mounts that unit with "clips" is just poor design and engineering. It is virtually impossible to get the timer out without damaging the mounts. This is a small white plastic plug that fills the hinge sleeve hole on a refrigerator or freezer door. It covers unused hinge mounting holes to provide a clean, finished appearance, especially after reversing the door swing. Replace this plug if it has cracked, fallen out, or gone missing, leaving an exposed hole in the door.
Took off the freezer door, took off the top hinge on the refrigerator door, replaced the handle, re-installed the top hinge and the freezer door. This is a two person job - one to remove the top hinge and replace the handle, while a second person holds the refrigerator door in place. Replacing the handle was easy. Refrigerator not cooling or compressor running hot? This start device kit includes relay and overload to restore proper compressor function. DIY install.
I suspected the start-relay and tested it due to the lint plugged condenser coils. The start-relay rattled when shook, a telling sign it is no good due to over heating. I tested the compressor terminals and compared them the results with the Tech Data Sheet found with the unit, to find my compressor was still good. This is a rubber gasket that seals the connection between the water fill tube and the ice maker assembly inside the freezer compartment. It prevents water from leaking around the fill tube during the ice maker's fill cycle. Replace this gasket if you notice water dripping or ice buildup around the fill tube area, or if water is leaking onto the freezer floor during ice production.

This kit includes shelf support studs used to hold shelves securely in place inside the refrigerator or freezer compartment. The supports mount into the interior liner and provide a stable resting point for wire or glass shelves. Replace these if the shelf supports are cracked, broken, or missing, causing shelves to sit unevenly or fall.
