This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart. Read more

Before we replaced the board, my wife tried to replace just the element. We had one we had ordered several years ago when this same thing happened. When that didn't work we replaced the board and could see where the old board was damaged so we figured this was the solution. 1. After hearing a loud noise on the freezer side of unit about halfway up, I started investigating what it could be? My conclusion was evaporator motor or evaporator fan blade. I removed the meat drawer and shelving unit. I unscrewed the Philips head screws on either side of the shelf brackets. I cleaned the old surfaces and fitted the new plastic hangers in place. I screwed the new hangers in place with the screws I had from the old ones. It was very easy, except the holes in the plastic hanger are not quiet big enough for the screws. I paid to have a repairman diagnose the problem, HOWEVER, after submitting a quote for repair I knew that it was a ripoff to take advantage of us. He said the prices for the part and labor was given to him by his company. The part (evaporator fan motor) cost me under 40.00 from AppliancePartsPro, yet they wanted 90.00 for it. I originally ordered the Fan motor from a appliance dealer. I waited for 5 days for it to arrive. In the meantime I scavenge a motor from a junk refrigerator from the dump. It worked while I waited for the motor from the appliance dealer. When I picked it up 5 days later it was the "wrong" part. I was fuming mad. Ordered the part via the model number. Removed the old gasket (just pulls out of the indentations and cleaned the channel for the gasket. Pushed into the channel and no more frost forming in the freezer. Read more

It was a pretty easy fix not as easy as the 1 nut models they show on YouTube it had 3 tiny ones that my big hands had a bit of trouble with. It said 15 minutes it took me about a half an hour. I called a service company just to see what they would charge. $90.00 to say hello 1 hour minimal labor $110.00 and $120.00 for the part. It cost me $90.00 and 30 minutes of my time.
