The Nut is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This nut secures the float switch, a key component in regulating the water level within the dishwasher. The float switch ensures your dishwasher does not overfill by triggering the water to stop once it reaches a certain level.
Over time and with regular use, the nut that holds the float switch in place can become loose or damaged. This could potentially allow water to seep through gaps, leading to leaks, or could cause the float switch to malfunction, affecting the dishwasher's ability to regulate water levels accurately.
Symptoms of a faulty Nut include:

Dishwasher washer would not drain after hearing glass-like particles during the drain cycle despite trying to clean the cylinder filter. Originally suspected the drain motor was damaged. After watching a video on how to replace the drain pump, I carefully energized the dishwasher (from water and electricity) then removed the dishwasher to take a look. We scoured the web and there are few references to this so I want to add it in case it helps. Replacing hinges solved the popping opening issue. We could not solve our dishwasher door issue after a number of other tries: Latch, Catch, Ropes that attach to the springs that pull the door closed. I tend to believe the solve could be different b/c all these things work together. But for us, we were skeptical that the hinge swap would work and we were very pleasantly surprised. Read more
Dishwasher leaking from underneath? The float switch kit controls water level and stops overfilling. Typical repair time 10-30 minutes.
Removed bottom cover, located leak at float switch, removed and replaced float switch kit. The toughest part of the repair was removing the Float & Retainer Assembly (in the interior of the machine tank) which broke when I pushed it back and pulled it straight up as suggested in the service manual. The Float Switch Kit (attached to, and below the float, below and outside the tank) has a folding plastic cover which fastens with plastic clips. If you open the switch kit before removing the... Dishwasher won't turn on or start? A faulty control board often causes no power, flashing lights, or incomplete cycles. Moderate DIY repair.
After looking for solutions online and watching some short videos, we decided to open the dishwasher up and try to fix it ourselves. Fix loud grinding noise or poor water circulation in your dishwasher. This pump and motor assembly circulates and drains water. Moderate DIY repair.
We initially noticed the dishwasher running loud and failing to completely clean dishes. Research suggested issues like this were normally caused by either the main circulation motor or the drain motor. Over the next week the noise worsened, and it became obvious that the circulation motor had went (loud whirring noise whenever the spin cycle kicked in). I watched a couple youtube videos on the removal and dissassembly until I felt confident that my wife and I could handle the project. For the... Read more
