Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You I needed to convert my jenn air stove top range back to natural gas from lp and the orifices were not available by themselves so i needed to order new orifice holders that included the ng orifices   James M. • Brooklyn , WI • November 23, 2015

I had to drill out the screws that hold down the burner plates which also mount to the orifice holders because all of the screws had rusted tight and could not be loosened. The drilling out part was fairly easy and once I had removed the burner plates, I could easily lift the stove top off and get access to the orifice holders to replace all of them. I purchased new stainless steel self-threading screws from our local hardware store and re-assembled the new orifice holders and existing burner... Read more

I replaced the Igniter switch, two control valves and one holder/orifice (because I couldn't get the screws out and decided to just replace it rather than re-tape it and get new screws). The one thing I forgot was I have propane and the orifice was for natural gas. Fortunately, I was able to swap out the orifice from the old holder. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Stove ignition would not stop sparking even with all knobs in "off" position   Edwin N. • Cumming , GA • January 14, 2019

I disconnected the downdraft exhaust pipe and unplugged the stove. I lifted up the stove and rested, supported it over the opening with a few pieces of scrap lumber. Opening the stove, I found all 4 switches dirty. After disconnecting one-at-a-time, I found the faulty switch. Shopping for a replacement, I noticed a parts diagram showing grommets around the knobs. My stove was missing all the grommets, allowing debris to gunk up the switches. Since switches are expensive, I cleaned mine in... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Continuous sparking and then a fire   Richard B. • San Dimas , CA • March 04, 2017

A few weeks back, when shutting off a burner, the igniter started sparking and wouldn't stop. Working the knobs and jiggling them got it to stop. Fast forward a few weeks. Finish cooking, go sit down to eat. Hear snapping noise, go look, see burners are all off and the igniters are all sparking. Jiggle the knobs. Poof! Flames come out the top one! What a stink. Unplugged stove, finished dinner. Loosened the cooktop and investigated. Ordered switch. Two days later, part arrives. Two screws... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You No spark in front two burners   Bob F. • Matamoras , PA • October 12, 2020

The top had to be removed but with the unit being 14 years old, galvanic corrosion had seized the screws holding the Burner Heads to the Orifices. I carefully drilled out the heads of the screws until the Burner heads could be pulled free. I removed the two screws that held the Burner control assembly with all the gas valves in place. If you open the top oven, there are two last screws that thread straight up into the top. So 14 screws in all. I ordered 10 new screws along with the Orifices... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Replace igniter on gas oven (maytag)   Jeffrey H. • Pelham , NH • January 03, 2020

I had to remove the oven door, which I learned is made to come off without tools. Then took out the bottom by removing two screws and lifting. Removed the screws attaching the igniter, pulled wires thru back until I could get the connector and disconnect. When the new igniter arrived, I had to change the connector. I cut the one off the old one, and spliced to the new one using solder and shrink tubing. Just reverse the procedure to install. I replaced the screws with new ones. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The ice bucket housing had disintegrated and the motor twisted off   Lloyd W. • Streamwood , IL • January 08, 2026

I pulled out the old housing and unplugged the motor. It pretty much came out in pieces. Remove the plastic from the motor, then had to take a pair of vice grips to hold the spindle in place to remove the auger. Remove what was still attached to the old Housing. Cleaned everything up and put the whole unit back together. The motor looked like it was somewhat cooked but still worked, so I ordered a new motor and auger to replace it.
