I had to replace my frig and the upgraded model didn't come with a dairy bin. I found a review for the model in which someone had done the research and found that the Kenmore Elite had a model of refrigerator that was designed like the Whirlpool but came with the bin. He ordered it for his Whirlpool and he says it fit. I ordered one and it fit on the top notches but due to the design, it would not open. The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. I purchased replacement parts to completely replace basket, face plate, and rollers. I received exactly what I ordered. The only problem I had was removing the part(s) from the shipping box. I thought the part came assembled (as rollers had been installed onto the basket), but the face plate had not been snapped into place. I noticed Ice maker Quit for the third time in 15 years so I decided to buy another Ice maker, I installed it and NO ice still?? Well I went after the other problem thinking if it does not get cold enough maybe ice maker won’t work. I ordered Defrost Switch, Heater and Evaporator Fan just to be safe. Removed the plastic shield, then unscrewed old bulb. Screwed in new bulb. New bulb has a slightly different screw base. Looked in several stores that carry appliance bulbs and could not find any bulbs that matched the unusual screw base. Replacing the snap-in plastic shield was difficult. Remove and replaced the auger motor, shaft seal, and the chute seal. No problem. However, the causing failure was to broken wire on the bottom of the freezer door. Loom and blue wire were cut, due to being pinched. I had current to start with and the auger worked three times then quit. That's when I really had to start searching . Fun. Read more
