Refrigerator Defrost Timer
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP68233-2

Fridge not cooling or running constantly? A faulty defrost timer causes frost buildup and temperature swings. Most DIYers replace it in 15 minutes.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The refrigerator section was not staying cold as before and the noise was louder than normal   Stephen S. • Flagstaff , AZ • July 11, 2015

At first, I suspected the evaporator fan motor was going bad, but when I went in to check it out, I found the evaporator coils totally frozen up; the fan was cavitating. I defrosted the coils completely and checked everything out. By process of elimination the Defrost timer had to be the culprit. I unplugged the timer and sure enough, the motor winding was open. Replacing the defrost timer fixed my problem. Troubleshooting (using the information available on your web site) took a little... Read more

By: Whirlpool

Replacement screw that secures the drawer roller to the rail or bracket in your refrigerator. Needed when the original screw is stripped, missing, or damaged.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Rollers broke off the drawer glides in my refrigerator so drawer would fall out when extended   John M. • New Haven , VT • November 24, 2017

Popping the old draw glides off was the toughest part of the job, ad even that was fairly easy, once I noticed the little retaining tabs near the front of the drawer. Pushed in on the tabs, while pushing back on the drawer glide rail and it popped right off. One minor problem I did note: When the rollers were installed on the shoulder screws, they would not turn. One roller just had a burr around the inside edge of the hole. The other the entire bore was a bit undersized, creating a snug fit.... Read more

Ice Maker Auger Motor Assembly
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: 12001773

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The ice maker motor for the auger dispenser internal gears stripped   Paul D. • Swanton , OH • April 07, 2015

Replaced the motor, however not the easiest to do with the older refrigerators. First I had to remove the shelf that hold the ice bin. There is a small screw midway underneath the tray. Once removed the shelf is loose but still hard to remove. There is a side panel that is slotted andonce removed the shelf can then be removed, but not knowing that it is a very odd fitting unit. Then comes the unplugging which cannot be seen so it is all by feel. Once the shelf drops down the plug is now... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Shelf supports had broken off   John P. • Salinas , CA • October 29, 2021

My Jenn Air JCD2389GES refrigerator had a broken shelf and drawer studs. One of the studs had also broken off much of the side panel. The previous owner tried to use a screw to fix one of the studs. I ordered both the Crisper Shelf Support and screw. Turns out the screw isn't long enough to attach the Support. Since I have a tenant moving in soon I elected to superglue the Support. So far it is holding and working fine. The Support stud has a wider base which provided enough coverage to glue to... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The ice bucket housing had disintegrated and the motor twisted off   Lloyd W. • Streamwood , IL • January 08, 2026

I pulled out the old housing and unplugged the motor. It pretty much came out in pieces. Remove the plastic from the motor, then had to take a pair of vice grips to hold the spindle in place to remove the auger. Remove what was still attached to the old Housing. Cleaned everything up and put the whole unit back together. The motor looked like it was somewhat cooked but still worked, so I ordered a new motor and auger to replace it. Because this fridge is 24 yrs old, Appliancepartspros... Read more
