Our microwave is mounted over the range, and has dual lights underneath that light up the range. Main Fuse did not open, only fuse for high voltage section was opened. Prior to the fuse blowing a louder than normal hum was heard from microwave for 1-2 seconds prior. Easy fix is the high voltage capacitor, so first checked the voltage across the capacitor terminals to ensure capacitor was discharged. Typically should be reasonably discharged within 30sec-1min assuming drain resistor is still in place. Removed the high voltage cap, and checked the capacitance and did not get a reading.... Removed OTR microwave. Checked the thermostat switches while power was applied with a DVM. Noticed that when a certain set of wires was moved the slightest bit the microwave would power up. Traced the wires to the thermostat switch for the cavity. Noticed that where one (of two) Faston terminals was crimped to the thermostat switch was black. (should be copper colored). Searched and found it is a common problem. Wife boiled pasta and forgot to turn on exhaust fan. Microwave was soaking wet and problem began. Poor design on keypad allows moisture to enter. Could see moisture when old pad was removed. Probably could of took it apart and dried out. Any how, part solved the problem. Be careful to remove all icky glue left over from old pad.
