Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Catastrophic failure of the dryer cycling thermostat in a maytag neptune super stack   Richard M. • Cornish , NH • October 19, 2020

Through 15 years of vibration, the Cycling Thermostat evidently had degraded to the point where one electrical connection or more came loose and caused a short. There is also a possibility that the Bakelite section of the Dryer Cycling Thermostat body separated from the metal base, simultaneously exposing all four connections to a short. The thermostat literally exploded into chunks and dust. There was a heavy arcing and then, thankfully, the thermal fuse blew and shut down power to the short... Read more

Washer Door Lock Motor And Switch Assembly
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WH10X10008

Washer won't start or door won't lock? This door lock motor and switch assembly fixes both issues. Moderate DIY repair requires removing screws and gasket.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Wash cycle would not start faint click instead of normal door lock sound   Jeff N. • Charlotte , NC • August 16, 2019

Replaced door lock. It required removing the two screws around the lock, pulling the spring hoop wire from around the door gasket, and then disconnecting the two wire terminals from the lock. Reverse with the new part. After cracking open the old lock the failure was caused by a thin plastic tab breaking off. I also bought the door switch since it's cheap - just in case the problem was not the lock. But the door lock was the fix. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Door kept un latching during wash cycle   Rolland W. • Hilton Head , SC • March 04, 2015

Tried bending the strike to get a firmer grip, but no luck. Replaced the door latch and strike. Washer is about ten years old. You can feel the new catch has a more positive engagement. When you replace the strike, be sure not to tilt it downward in front. It will go in the way but it will keep the door from closing. Not sure I needed to replace the strike but didn't want to risk more downtime. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My maytag gas dryer would start and the the tumbler rotate but the igniter would not glow and flame not start   .gil P. • Enumclaw , WA • March 29, 2015

The 2 sensors that sit on top of the flame tube work together. The Thrmst F should check closed, as should the Cutoff-TML, in order for power to flow to the ignitor. If the Cutoff is open, it is usually because the Thrmst-F did not open soon enough. The Thermst-F will cycle, closed to open, and repeat, however the Cutoff-HTML is a one time switch. If it opens it will not return to closed, and subsequently the ignitor will not glow. Some professionals say that if one of these sensors fail, both... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Dc "spin" and lo "lid lock" error codes   Matthew H. • Clarksville , TN • May 19, 2015

After watching the video it was strait forward. Just Pull the screws pop the lid swap the springs "grease them" and put it back together. I had worn out springs and the load kept becoming unbalanced during spin cycles I just happened to coincide with the Lock mechanism failing. The motor drive for the lock stopped working.... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Replaced door latch parts.   Michelle S. • Olmsted Twp , OH • September 05, 2017

Our 7 y/o dishwasher wouldn't close and therefore we couldn't get it to run. I called several service places who charged $75-$90 diagnostic plus parts & labor, and they were not able to get here for at least a week. I knew it was going to run at least $200. Kitchenaid wanted > $400 for a 1 YEAR WARRANTY, but it would cover this service call and any more throughout the next year. Seemed a little steep given the unit is already 7 y/o. I watched a couple videos on this site and YouTube and... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Frigidaire dryer door would not stay closed   Carolina L. • Miami , FL • September 08, 2015

My dryer door would not stay shut because the door strike was stuck in the door catch. I was afraid that when I pulled the strike out, it would damage the catch, so I ordered the door strike and door catch. I got the damaged door strike out with needle nosed pliers in about 15 seconds. The door catch was in perfect condition so I didn't need to use the one I ordered. So then I proceeded to install the new door strike.
