Knowing from a previous repair, that there was only 3 parts that could be bad. I decided if I was going to take it apart to change all 3. Not having the proper test equipment, it was cheaper to replace the 3 parts than pay a repair person. Read more

Replaced evaporator heater and housing. Just make sure you also replace the thermostat. If not it is a little challenging to get the wires out of the old thermostat/ heater plug into the new plug. Also if you have the same problem be prepared to have a good heat gun to melt the ice buildup around the evaporator and drain hole. The ice build up was so bad that it destroyed the evaporator cover and was leaking into the refrigerator or should I say ice was forming below the evaporator cover... Read more

Would advise before doing this repair to watch the video for it. It is not a plug in connection anymore like older ovens. The key is to keep the connecting wires from the oven from falling or pulling into the inner wall of the oven. The wires may not come very far out away from the wall of the oven so make sure to secure them. The video shows a good way to do that. Heater defroster part number AP5982425. I have GE model GTE16DTHCRBB. I found a Youtube video of a repair of a similar model. Getting the heater defroster out was not a piece of cake because you can not see the mounting due to it being behind the coils, same is true for reinstalling the new. There is a strap on top of the heater defroster that has to be connected to the heater defroster before being reinstalled. I diagnosed the problem, found Appliance Parts Pros and watched their video. It was as easy as the video they made said it would be. Overall an amazing experience. I was quoted $250 to have the repairman come do the same thing. My cost was $40. Read more

It was very easy caled up ordered the part no prblem got it in 3 days.Got a phillips screw driver removed the top of the stove took out the old one a put in the new one had it fixed within minutes very easy diy no need to pay someone alot of money for this easy fix. Read more

Replaced: condenser fan motor, defrost timer, defrost thermostat (bi-metal), and added a heat probe. Fan motor obviously shot... hard to turn by hand. Defrosted for 48 hours, cleaned & bleached drain tube. Never tried to test the old timer or bi-metal but it now runs perfectly and tightly maintains 39/0 degrees with dry fridge.
