Fixes ice buildup on freezer back panel and warm fridge temperatures. This defrost heater melts frost from evaporator coils. Moderate DIY repair.
IMPORTANT: Defrost heater was more difficult to install around the evaporator coils than the APP installation videos show, but it can be installed. See below. FIRST: Unplug the fridge/freezer! I tested the thermostat, mechanical defrost timer, and the defrost heater with a ohmmeter and determined that the heater was bad. NOTE: Thermostat must be cold in order to be tested; otherwise, the switch inside won't close and you won't get a reading from the ohmmeter. Take a can of compressed air,... Read more

Fix ice buildup in freezer and warm fridge temps. This defrost thermostat monitors evaporator temperature to control defrost cycles. DIY-friendly repair.
After watching numerous videos I was able to discern that the problem was with one of the following: the timer, the heater, or the thermostat. a short time check showed me that the timer was working so that narrowed it down to the other two. Not having the necessary tools to check those two I ordered both parts. Once the parts came and I took out the old parts it was quite evident that it was the heater since it had black burn marks on it. I decided to install the thermostat also since it... Read more

Fix ice buildup on evaporator coils with this defrost heater. Solves blocked vents and poor cooling. Mounts at evaporator, moderate DIY repair.
White Westinghouse refrigerator door was accidentally left open over night when it was humid, and moisture condensed on the interior. In the morning the arc fault circuit breaker was tripped. Tried letting the unit dry out, but it would still trip the breaker as an arc fault. Started unplugging various components, compressor, evaporator fan, finally the defrost heater before it could be plugged in without tripping the breaker. Although the defrost heater's resistance measured normally, when it... Read more
