Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Er and rn   Christine B. • Lake Worth , FL • May 19, 2017

My husband expected we needed a new dishwasher but I insisted on trying to fix it first. You need a Torx screwdriver so make sure you have a set. A little difficult to get cover back on and lined up by myself, but I managed and this was my first attempt at major appliance repair. I replaced the entire console and the dispenser. Still working after 3 loads so my husband may have to eventually admit that I fixed it. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Whirlpool duet washer kept stopping at random times with no error codes   Joseph L. • Hawthorne , CA • April 17, 2015

Did lots of internet research. Narrowed problem down to three things - door lock latch, control unit, and motor control unit. Figured out how to run the diagnostic test program, which showed a F22 (door lock) error. Removed and ohm tested the door lock (pins 1 & 3). Found door lock latch to be defective. ordered new one and installed it. YouTube video helped a lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SjU6k5bpSs So far, so good. Have only done a few loads. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The dryer door kept popping open.   Debra S. • Peabody , MA • September 22, 2019

We ordered a door switch, dryer latch and strike plate. We realized that we only needed to replace the door switch. We watched a few videos and then replaced the switch. We couldn’t find a video for our model but they did give us a pretty good idea about what we needed to do. The hardest part was getting the original door switch out, all of the videos we watched showed us that it would pop out with a little pressure from a flat head screw driver, from the front of the switch. We could not get... Read more

We watched a YouTube video on how to replace the door latch. Very simple to do. We had to remove the metal band holding the door gasket to be able to access the latch. After removing the band, we pushed aside the gasket and removed the screws to the latch and the connecting cables. To install the new part, we just reversed the process. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My old door latch was not making a consistent connection the diswaher wouldd stop mid cycle and you had to jiggle it to get it to finish   William K. • Gettysburg , PA • August 22, 2014

I turned off the power then removed the six or so screws from the back of the top panel. I marked the two front wires on the latch with tape so I would not get them confused. I removed the two screws holding the latch on--these take a six pointed star bit on the screw driver--the bit is in most screw driver sets with interchangeable heads. I then connected the wires to the new latach and put everything back together. The whole process took between ten and fifteen minutes. Read more

Door Strike
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WE1X1192

The Door Strike is an OEM part for GE dryers. This component is crucial for ensuring that the dryer door latches properly when closed. It interacts with the door catch mechanism to secure the door during operation, preventing it from opening unexpectedly, which ensures the dryer operates safely and efficiently.

Symptoms of a failing Door Strike include:

  • The dryer door not staying closed during a cycle
  • Difficulty in closing the dryer door or getting it to latch properly
  • The dryer not starting because the door switch is not engaged
  • Visible damage or wear on the door strike

Causes of a bad door strike can include wear and tear from regular use, physical damage from slamming the door or mishandling, and misalignment caused by repeated opening and closing.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Note: If the door catch is also needed, use part number WE1M1011.

I ordered a new soap dispenser and began a new venture in repairing my dishwasher. I turned off the breaker that suppled power to the unit.
