This PTC start relay mounts on the refrigerator compressor and briefly energizes the start winding, then automatically opens as it warms. Replacing a weak relay helps restore reliable compressor starts and consistent cooling. What it does:
I bought this relay switch and it works great. On the left side of the compressor there is a plastic cover you pry off with a screw driver. The relay switch had one wire plug on it. Just pull the wire off and the pull the relay switch off the compressor. Read more
The Start Device is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This part provides the necessary electrical connection and power to initiate the refrigerator's compressor operation.
Causes of a bad start device can include electrical surges, regular wear and tear, or internal component failure.
Symptoms of a bad start device include:
This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.
After watching a few videos on this site and on You Tube it seemed like the most likely culprits were the starter and the capacitor. I found them easily behind the back panel near the compressor and easily unplugged them. I found the part numbers on this site and ordered them. After a 5 minute installation the compressor came back to life, and my 10 year old refrigerator has a new lease on life. Read more
This starter is the compressor start relay that briefly powers the start winding to get the compressor turning. Replacing a weak or failed starter can restore reliable compressor startup and consistent cooling performance.
We replaced the starter and relay. Unit is working properly. We saved over $150 by replacing the parts in question. Read more
Had a friend who is an appliance repair tech. Replace the evaporator, the heater coil, and the filter/drier. Parts were soldered together and the compressor was put under vacuum. Then, charged with 5 oz. of refrigerant. The freezer works great now! Read more
I changed the compressor, dryer and upgraded the software. Read more

For an emergency fix I installed a 3 in1 kit disabling the original start cap and wiring in the original run cap to the run winding. Ordered the proper PTC and overload from Appliance Parts Pros and installed them 2 weeks later. The original start and run capacitor were good, rewired back to design specs. The original PTC had pins 1,2 and 3, the replacement had 2,3 and 4. Only wiring change was to install the red wire from pin 1 on the original PTC to pin 4 on the new PTC. Read more
The Compressor Controller is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. It is a component responsible for monitoring and regulating the compressor.
The controller allows the compressor to operate efficiently based on temperature inputs from sensors located throughout the refrigerator and freezer compartments. It controls compressor cycling intervals based on sensor readings in order to maintain optimal cooling.
Symptoms of a faulty controller include:
This OEM Frigidaire part is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator and some Kenmore models.
After smelling and seeing the smoke I was able to spot the defective parts. Where the run capacitor connects to the control-compressor is where it was burning. So I went to the Appliance Parts Pros website and put in the model number and the diagram of parts come up. I ordered the new parts, the control-compressor, and the run capacitor. Quick shipping. Installed and works ss required. Read more
Ordered new Evaporator part and Drier from Appliance Pros. The part arrived earlier than expected and was properly packaged. I had both parts installed by a professional as they required a level of expertise above my capabilities. Works perfectly. Read more
This controller kit replaces the appliance's electronic control board, restoring proper power-up, keypad/display response, and reliable operation of controlled functions. Use it to address unresponsive controls or erratic behavior caused by a failed control board. What it does:
An appliance repairman came to diagnose the issue causing the burning smell and the reason the 17- year old Frigidaire freezer was not cooling. He plugged the freezer back in and it immediately flamed up revealing the failed power overload controller. He tested the controller and the attached capacitor and found they had both failed. He quoted $556 to replace the failed parts to resolve the issue. We initially decided the replace the whole freezer given its age, but due to the China virus,... Read more
This refrigerator compressor is the heart of the sealed cooling system. It compresses and circulates refrigerant so the fresh food and freezer sections reach and maintain set temperatures, restoring cooling performance when the original unit has failed.
This compressor overload protects the refrigerator's compressor by cutting power if it overheats or draws excessive current. When it fails, the compressor may not start and the fridge can warm up while you hear repeated clicking from the rear.
I replaced the overload which was burned up by constantly resetting because the condenser fan motor was not running properly so I replaced that as well. Read more
This compressor kit is made to be used with freezers and refrigerators by several manufacturers. It includes the compressor as well as all small parts associated with it. The compressor is a component that helps move the refrigerant throughout the appliance's system. Temperature sensors indicate when the compressor should run. If the compressor is damaged, it may make strange noises, no longer cool properly, or could begin to overheat. If any of these issues are present, the compressor should be replaced. First, make sure the refrigerator is not connected to a power source. Remove perishable items from the appliance and place them in an icebox, cooler with ice, or another refrigerator. Locate the compressor on the back of the appliance by removing the metal guard. Remove the wire between the compressor and the capacitor before taking off the compressor. Replace this part with the new one by connecting it to the wire and reassembling the appliance. This is a compressor kit for use with refrigerators and freezers made by Crosley, Electrolux, Westinghouse, Frigidaire, Kelvinator, Tappan, and Gibson. It is sourced directly from the manufacturer and sold as a single part. This is a genuine OEM replacement part.
Purchased a replacement COMPRESSOR. The compress or was a replacement for MFG. P/N 5304478809. The compressor was not an exact replacement. There was no port identification so the connections took a lot of time searching the net and then only the suction port was noted. I had to operate the compressor to be sure of the discharge port. The start relay on the original had no power plug as the new one did so had to improvise by cutting the wiring and adding 1/8 push on clips and then sliding on to... The Start Relay is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. As an electronic switch, it is designed to receive signals from the control board to safely initiate power to the refrigerator systems. The relay allows the control functions to command starting compressors and fans without overloading circuits directly. Causes of a faulty start relay include normal wear of the contacts and coil over thousands of relay operations. Mineral accumulation can also lead to arcing or resistance buildup. Symptoms of failure involve:
This OEM Frigidaire replacement ensures reliable starting and cooling. This relay is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, and select Kenmore-branded fridges.
