I ordered a broiler element, watched the video and replaced the element when it arrived. I turned off the electrical breaker to the stove/oven. I then removed the oven door from the hinges and removed the 1/4" square head screws that secured the element in place,( the video showed phillip head screws ), removed the element wires from the old element. Isolated the problem to extreme frost build up on the evaporator coils.
I measured an open circuit on the defrost heater/thermostat, so I ordered both.
Following the procedure in the GE service manual for this refrigerator, I gained access to the evaporator in the back of the freezer section, and I replaced the both heater element and the defrost thermostat. Refrigerator cools fine now.
