Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The dryer door kept popping open.   Debra S. • Peabody , MA • September 22, 2019

We ordered a door switch, dryer latch and strike plate. We realized that we only needed to replace the door switch. We watched a few videos and then replaced the switch. We couldn’t find a video for our model but they did give us a pretty good idea about what we needed to do. The hardest part was getting the original door switch out, all of the videos we watched showed us that it would pop out with a little pressure from a flat head screw driver, from the front of the switch. We could not get... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ran for 5 to 7 seconds and stopped.   Paul K. • Dayton , TX • November 04, 2017

I researched the issue on You tube and found out it could be either the "belt broke switch" or the Moisture sensor. A friend who was an appliance mechanic advised "since you have to take it all apart anyways, its best to replace the belt, spring, and Idler wheel" I bought the 5 item for $52. I watched the video on the AppliancePartsPros for changing out the belt and I replace all items on the list. Took 1 1/2 hrs and was fixed on restart!! * Wear gloves, the sheet metal is very sharp edges!* Read more

I tried to buy a new refigerator, but strangely none of the major stores had anything I wanted in stock. The earliest delivery date for a new unit was over a month away. At that I decided to try and keep this one running. I did online research into common refigerator problems. I found the cooling coils in the freezer were covered in a block of ice and frost. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My old door latch was not making a consistent connection the diswaher wouldd stop mid cycle and you had to jiggle it to get it to finish   William K. • Gettysburg , PA • August 22, 2014

I turned off the power then removed the six or so screws from the back of the top panel. I marked the two front wires on the latch with tape so I would not get them confused. I removed the two screws holding the latch on--these take a six pointed star bit on the screw driver--the bit is in most screw driver sets with interchangeable heads. I then connected the wires to the new latach and put everything back together. The whole process took between ten and fifteen minutes. Read more

This Maytag dryer was bought in 1985 if memory serves. It has worked hard with few repairs done by yours truly over the years. Thanks to the engineering and excellent design by Maytag staff, removing parts are relatively easy. Once I opened the unit, I found it to be full of lint. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washer was displaying error code for the door lock the door lock would latch and unlatch about 3 4 times then the error code would display   Brenda K. • Georgetown , TX • July 16, 2016

We watched a YouTube video on how to replace the door latch. Very simple to do. We had to remove the metal band holding the door gasket to be able to access the latch. After removing the band, we pushed aside the gasket and removed the screws to the latch and the connecting cables. To install the new part, we just reversed the process. We reconnected the cables, inserted the new door latch and screwed it in. The hardest part of the process was getting the metal band around the gasket. It... Read more

Door Strike
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WE1X1192

The Door Strike is an OEM part for GE dryers. This component is crucial for ensuring that the dryer door latches properly when closed. It interacts with the door catch mechanism to secure the door during operation, preventing it from opening unexpectedly, which ensures the dryer operates safely and efficiently.

Symptoms of a failing Door Strike include:

  • The dryer door not staying closed during a cycle
  • Difficulty in closing the dryer door or getting it to latch properly
  • The dryer not starting because the door switch is not engaged
  • Visible damage or wear on the door strike

Causes of a bad door strike can include wear and tear from regular use, physical damage from slamming the door or mishandling, and misalignment caused by repeated opening and closing.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Note: If the door catch is also needed, use part number WE1M1011.
