This was a friends dryer. They'd been quoted a $200 call out fee and after taking with them on the phone were also told they could have the dryer taken away for $150. I told my friends that inwould fix it. I used a multimeter to check the thermostats, heaterbelement and funrion dial. I found 2 bad thermostats. Used video and took apart dru, this was extremely helpful. I bypassed the belt and door switch. Tested gas valves (gas disconnected) with multimeter. Found that the igniter worked the first gas valve, but the second gas valve would not open and the igniter would stay on. Found a flow chart online that shows the flame detect turns on causing the gas to turn on and shuts off the igniter. I replaced it and tested again. I replaced the cycle switch, fixing the lack of heat. The timer switch replacement fixed the auto cool down. I watched a cycle switch replacement on Youtube, demonstrating removal of the top console, which answered the only question I had about the repair. The timer switch was a hundred bucks. The only thing to be said about that is that it was a lot cheaper than a repairman or replacing the dryer. Read more

Check compressor with my Hotwire kit I made when I worked for GE. When removing the compressor relay it broke in pieces. Ordered and replaced new relay, overload & run capacitor. Still did not work. Check if there’s power to compressor and found no voltage. Took control board out and found a component burnt. Ordered and replaced control board. Everything is back to normal. Love your service. Removed the heater of course and installed the part. Very easy to do no need to remove the drum, just top cover, control panel, and front door assembly. Remove the one screw holding heater, remove blue wire, turn heater CCW to the 8 o'clock poisiton. Install in the reverse order. This is the secound one in a month if it fails again i'll just bypass it and install a 25 AMP fuse. Read more

Realizing that there could be multiple reasons for a gas dryer failing to heat, I decided to test everything I could. Purchased a new starter and compressor run capacitor. Unplugged appliance from wall outlet. removed clip that holds these item in place. unplugged starter from compressor and from electrical wiring. plugged capacitor into starter, then plugged the electrical connection into assembly. I removed the front panel and observed the heating element while running the dryer. It was cycling off every minute or so and staying off for several minutes. Even though it was likely the high temp cycling thermostat I replaced both the 14, and 15 cycling thermostats which I think are the original factory units. That makes them nearly 35 years old. The ordeal began after wiping around burner knobs with a moist paper towel with cleaner and wrapping the towel around the burner knob shaft to clean around it.
