Microwave not heating? A failed diode prevents the magnetron from generating heat. This high-voltage component converts AC to DC power. DIY repair.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Microwave would not heat but had power   Wilbur C. • Washington , DC • December 16, 2017

14 year old GE Profile microwave wouldn't heat, but had power. Read reviews here. Ordered triumvirate of magnetron, capacitor, & diode. Was hoping not to need the capacitor as this was an expensive part; and if not needed to return to AppliancePartsPros, which has been SOP. After watching a couple YouTube videos of microwave capacitors being shorted, I made a capacitor discharge tool ordering 24W 100K Ohm resistor and high voltage test wires w/ alligator clips from amazon. At the same time,... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My maytag mmv4205bab over the cooktop mounted microwave stopped heating without any warning the unit sounded like it was working but now the sound was noticeably louder i had replaced a magnetron   Lee B. • Lakewood , CA • February 27, 2015

After dismounting the unit from its wall-hanging bracket, the most tedious part of the repair was removing over a dozen screws holding the cover in place from the top, bottom, and both sides. Fortunately, I had placed the unit on a bench that allowed me to slide the unit allowing access to the screws on the bottom edges of the unit. Always discharge the capacitor before continuing to work on the unit by discharging the capacitor by shorting the contact without the diode to ground. Access to the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ge monogram zmc1095sf02 microwave   Christopher L. • Saint Charles , IL • December 15, 2014

Wife let me know the microwave was making grinding noise while I was in garage fixing her car starter, never a dull moment. Further questioning she also said it wan't heating the food. Due to being an odd sized built in $$ unit I had to have repaired. I was getting quotes in the $4-500 range for just the magnetron. I was pretty confident the magnetron was the issue and also ordered a new capacitor and diode since I was going to be in there and a lot of money ahead repairing myself. About... Read more

Microwave Diode
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W11256462

Microwave won't heat but hums loudly? The diode regulates power to the magnetron. Test with multimeter—reads one direction only. Moderate DIY repair.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Loud hum/buzz & no heat   Greg S. • Springfield , VA • November 30, 2015

Replacing a magnetron in my particular 9-year-old microwave (a microwave/hood combination) was not a simple “plug & play” operation. That is why I am placing this in the slightly difficult area. First, it takes 2 people to remove the microwave from the top of the stove. Next the main outer panel need to be removed. After that, 2 sheet metal panels need to be removed in order to expose the high voltage components for testing. Always discharge the high voltage capacitor first before doing... Read more

Microwave Diode Cable Assembly

By: Ge
Part Number: WB27X35382

Microwave won't heat but runs? A faulty diode cable assembly prevents power conversion. DIYers report 10-minute fixes after diagnosing the issue.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The appliance was a ge profile microwave oven it appeared to work normally but there was no heat at all   Paul W. • Knoxville , TN • August 09, 2016

Replaced the high voltage diode. You will need a special Torx screwdriver to remove the tamper resistant screws holding the cover. Once the cover is removed there should be a packet inside containing a schematic and detailed troubleshooting instructions. I used extreme caution to discharge the capacitor. The rest was simple. One screw and a push connector to remove and reinstall the diode. I fired it up and it was good as new. Thanks to AppliancepartsPros for the good guidance and extremely... Read more

Microwave High Voltage Diode
Genuine Frigidaire part

Part Number: 5304467670

Microwave not heating but humming loudly? A failed high-voltage diode is often the cause. This rectifier converts AC to DC for the magnetron circuit.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Microwave making loud humming noise   Ken S. • Cumberland , RI • February 24, 2015

We had a problem with the magnetron a few years ago while it was still under warranty so they sent me a new magnetron but when the repairman showed up he had a new one also and said just keep it as a spare (no charge). It's an over-the-range microwave so taking it down takes a little bit of an effort, cumbersome more than anything. Got it down to my work bench, took off the housing, checked to make sure the capacitor was discharged, removed the capacitor (diode is attached to it) and... Read more

Triac (Control Switch), 1-Pack
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WB02X10402

Solid-state triac that switches AC power under command of the appliance's electronic control board. Replacing a failed triac restores proper power control to heating elements or motors and resolves intermittent or no-power symptoms. What it does:

  • Acts as a solid-state switch on the control board to regulate AC power to heating elements or motors
  • Enables the electronic control to modulate output for temperature or speed control
  • Failure can cause no heat, intermittent heating, or loss of motor control
  • Designed to match the original control circuit; check board mounting and connections before replacing
What's included: One triac (single unit) Install notes:
  • Always disconnect all power at the breaker or unplug the appliance before servicing — risk of electric shock
  • This part mounts to the control board; handle the board and connectors carefully to avoid damage
  • Use anti-static precautions when handling electronic components;
  • Verify the part number on the original board before installation

Microwave High Voltage Diode Assembly
Genuine Ge part

Microwave blowing fuses or not heating? This high-voltage diode converts AC to DC for the magnetron. Moderate DIY repair restores heating performance.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Bad magnetron   John D. • Sugar Land , TX • June 07, 2021

After testing the power diode and capacitor that drives the magnetron power source, they came up good on the static tests with the multimeter and battery (used for the diode test). And the static test of the magnetron came fine too, ie: passed the ohm resistance test and short to case resistance tests. Still the oven works only heat water to ~137 degrees max even after running for several minutes. I suspected a break in the winding of the magnetron might be opening after it heats up. Try as I... Microwave Diode
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5304468869

Microwave won't heat but runs normally? A failed diode prevents power conversion to the magnetron. This part restores heating in most microwaves.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Everything seemed to work but it did not heat anything and made a loud buzzing noise   Hugh H. • Duluth , GA • February 18, 2017

The rectifier (a high-voltage diode) connected to the magnetron that supplies the RF energy that does the heating in the microwave was shorted. The shorted rectifier was found by using a multimeter to measure resistance which should be very high in this type of diode. After replacing the rectifier the Frigidaire microwave oven heated food normally. I thank AppliancePartsPros for sending the part so promptly. The real problem with this repair was getting this over the stove microwave oven out of... Read more

Fuse (5 A, 125 V)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WB27X10542

5 A, 125 V electrical fuse that restores circuit protection when the original fuse is blown. Replacing the failed fuse helps prevent further electrical damage and can restore normal appliance operation. What it does:

  • Provides overcurrent protection for the appliance circuit to stop excessive current flow.
  • Replaces a blown or open fuse that prevents the appliance from powering up.
  • Common symptom: appliance has no power or a circuit/component won't operate.
  • Common symptom: intermittent power or a fuse that visibly shows a blown element.
What's included: One 5 A, 125 V electrical fuse. Install notes:
  • Always disconnect power (unplug or shut off breaker) before inspecting or replacing the fuse.
  • Replace only with the exact rated fuse (5 A, 125 V) and part number to maintain proper protection.
  • Do not bypass the fuse or use makeshift substitutes — that can cause fire or equipment damage.
