Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice flapper door stopped closing   Lawrence D. • Holly Springs , NC • March 21, 2016

My refrigerator is 13 yrs old and began to build up frost in the ice cube shoot and the water tube began to freeze up over night. The flapper door was not closing completely. I simply removed the control panel by pulling up and out on the bottom edge, the edge is only about 1/8 inch thick, so don't reach in to far. You should be able to feel a small division line between the control panel and the refrigerator. No screw driver was needed to expose the 4 mounting screws of the inner dispenser... Read more

Run Capacitor
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR55X24064

The Run Capacitor is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It plays a crucial role in the refrigerator's cooling system by providing the necessary start and run voltage to the compressor. Without a properly functioning run capacitor, your refrigerator may struggle to maintain the desired temperature, leading to spoiled food and inefficient energy use.

Causes of a bad run capacitor include electrical surges, wear and tear over time, or overheating due to a malfunctioning refrigerator compressor or poor ventilation.

Symptoms of a bad Run Capacitor include:

  • The refrigerator compressor fails to start.
  • Unusual humming noises coming from the refrigerator.
  • The refrigerator cycles on and off more frequently than normal.
  • A noticeable increase in energy consumption as the refrigerator struggles to maintain the proper temperature.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Would not run led dimmed condenser fan would not run   Pete M. • Santa Fe , NM • May 16, 2015

We replaced the main circuit board and the LED started to work and the condenser fan worked, but all we had were relay clicking sounds, but no cooling. The compressor had become so hot trying to work when the main circuit board was amiss, that it had popped the over temperature sensor on its side. As some one point out, if you remove the PTC+OLP assembly with the capacitor on it, and shake it, you will hear a rattle inside---and that is bad. We ordered a second round of parts from... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Water leaking from under/behind fridge (two sources) three problems a comedy of errors   Joanne R. • Brookfield , WI • November 09, 2015

We noticed a puddle of water in front of the fridge a couple of months ago-dried the floor up both times and thought someone had dropped ice-or spilled water. A couple of weeks ago there was water dripping through the dropped tile ceiling in the basement. I shut off the water for the water supply to the fridge at the copper pipe in the basement and removed some of the tiles which felt a little damp. It still dripped all day. When my spouse came home he pulled down more of the tiles. It was as... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice (broken seal) fizzer light out due to ice then auger motor auger coupler and solenoid cube failure   Damon B. • Tumwater , WA • December 19, 2015

This was a two and half year issue as different things failed at different times. I would get one part, then another would fail. Ultimately, I got to a point where what failed, I hadn't been ordered the part yet. The seal on the freezer door took three bathing's before it plumped up and un-creased. The directions on the box it is shipped in said to heat the seal up in hot water then cool it down with tap water. I didn't need to do that. It took a lot of massaging of the seal, but... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Side by side fridge had stopped cooling in both fridge and freezer and was hot to touch in center between the two   Robert P. • King , NC • August 11, 2015

I googled the issue and read several articles. Most started with cleaning the coils (which mine are on the bottom) (19yr old Kenmore 363.9557812). I had not really ever cleaned them well, vacuuming did little. I had to remove the cardboard cover off the back of the frig, and blew them clean (front to back). Once that was done, I started cleaning from the back and noticed the fan wasn't turning week (condensor fan). Blew it out too, have it a good soon with a pencil, it puffed out a bunch of... Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR62X26536

This armature kit is the moving plunger and linkage operated by the dispenser solenoid. It opens and closes the ice chute door during dispensing and helps it seal when idle to reduce frost and warm-air leaks.

  • Converts the solenoid's electrical action into mechanical movement for the dispenser ice chute door
  • Helps maintain a proper seal to limit frost and moisture around the dispenser
  • Typical symptoms: ice won't dispense; chute door won't open/close; frost/ice buildup at the chute; loud buzzing or clicking from the dispenser area
  • Wear or sticking of the armature/spring can hinder movement and affect dispenser operation
What's included: 1 armature kit Installation notes:
  • Unplug the refrigerator and shut off water to the dispenser before servicing
  • Access the dispenser mechanism in the door; remove trim/control panel per your model's service information
  • Note the orientation of the armature, spring, and linkage; transfer components one-for-one to the new kit and secure hardware
  • Verify the solenoid plunger moves freely, reassemble, restore power, and test dispenser operation

Recess Door Retainer (Dispenser Ice Chute)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge

The recess door retainer secures the dispenser's ice chute flapper in the refrigerator door. Replacing a cracked or missing retainer restores proper flapper pivot and sealing to help reduce frost buildup and air leaks around the dispenser.

  • Holds the recess/ice door on its pivot within the dispenser assembly
  • Helps the flapper close fully to seal the ice chute
  • Restores smooth open/close action of the dispenser door
  • Common symptoms: loose or fallen flapper, poor chute seal, frost or condensation in the dispenser area, and ice clumping near the chute
What's included: 1 recess door retainer Install notes:
  • Unplug the refrigerator before servicing the dispenser
  • Carefully remove the dispenser bezel/control panel to access the ice chute door assembly
  • Note spring orientation and retainer position; transfer components to the new retainer

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Yes ice was not coming out of the dispenser   Jason S. • Goose Creek , SC • December 02, 2014

I replaced the solenoid, door, spring and bucket. The bucket cracked from ice freezing inside it. Ice froze inside the bucket because the solenoid stopped pulling the door closed which allowed hot humid air into the freezer. While I was in there I replaced the dispenser door, spring and crank because they are cheap and the old ones were moldy. The mold is most likely from the door not closing and causing condensation on the parts as well. Read more

  • Helps deliver cubes or crushed ice, depending on the control selection
  • Common symptoms: no ice dispensing, auger not turning, loud humming or grinding, intermittent or weak dispensing
  • Located in the freezer-door dispenser assembly and engages the ice bucket coupler
What's included: One dispenser crusher motor. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the refrigerator before servicing
