Timothy T Alpharetta , GA June 26, 2015 Appliance: Maytag Dishwasher PDBTT49AWW Dishwasher started making a grinding noise Searched the dishwasher model on ApplianceParts (had used them for a washing machine repair a few years earlier). Was looking for an exploded diagram of the internal parts so I could figure out what might be the problem. There was a video for a motor seal repair kit that seemed to address the bearings which is what I suspected was the culprit. The video started by noting that "you want to replace the motor seal if 1) you have a leak or 2) your dishwasher is making a noise". I watched the video, ordered the motor seal kit, it arrived in 2 days, I followed the video instructions and was done in about 1.5 hours and it's humming like new. While I was waiting for the parts I removed the filter and cleaned it. Read More... 38 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Screwdrivers
Ari M Charlestown , MA March 13, 2015 Appliance: Maytag Undercounter Dishwasher JDB1100AWS36 No water was circulating in the dishwasher At first I thought the motor had burned out, so I ordered a new motor. When I started to take the machine apart, I found that the original motor shaft attachment on which the impeller sits was made of nylon and had stripped; the motor was turning but the shaft attachment/cutting blade/impeller was not. So I ordered a new motor seal kit with the metal shaft attachment. Very fast and easy job (a little tricky to hold a screwdriver in the motor to keep it from turning and to reach into the machine to tighten the shaft attachment since I was doing it myself - I had to hold the screwdriver with my toes). Also found that the pump filter membranes had tears, so I replaced that part as well. Dishwasher (10 years old) now works like new. To do this, I turned off the electricla breaker, turned off the water to the machine, disconnected the water line to the machine, pulled the machine out, removed the internal parts to expose the motor shaft, tilted the machine backwards so it was almost at 45 degrees, put the screwdriver in the hole in the motor to keep it from turning and held it with my foot, then attached the motor shaft attachment with an adjustable wrench. Then I put on the rest of the parts. Read More... 25 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: Less than 15 minutes Tools: Adjustable Wrench, Pliers, Screwdrivers
Nikolette K Saint Louis , MO June 09, 2015 Appliance: Maytag Dishwasher MDB8600AWB No water circulating Motor shaft was stripped, replaced with new shaft from Motor Seal Kit. Impeller was also cracked, so replaced it as well. I did run in to a small problem, the chopper blade was pressing against the metal grate on the piece that goes back over the motor seal. I spent about an hour messing with it, but thought maybe once it's all together it'll be fine. When you screw the impeller on, it pushes down the seals, which pushes down the chopper blade. Video on Motor Seal Kit page made it an absolute breeze. Read More... 17 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers, Wrench Set
