The drive motor gave off a lot of smoke while on spin and then it would shut down when doing any function due to overheating

The motor would hum but not run unless you kicked it i can't imagine why since it was only 31 years old and had washed for my wife and three kids since 1984

I ordered a new motor which arrived th4e next day and within one hour after I got home from working out the old Maytag was running like new.
