Our 19 year old Whirlpool dryer quit heating. After checking the thermal fuse, I found the ignitor electrically open. I took the dryer apart.....first had to clean out all the lint here and there. Took the drum out, inspected the belt and back support wheels. They seemed to be fine. In the front the drum turns on two supports that have a Teflon glide. Those two glides had been worn off with their pad so metal was rubbing against metal. The root cause was the front glides. They were virtually gone, and the drum was on metal to metal. So I replaced them with a front glide kit. I also replaced the belt, rear rollers, and lint screen. First time DIY dryer repair. Videos very helpful! Remove front. Found glides worn thin, paint on drum removed where glides located. Drum, cage and motor turned easily - must be OK.
