Fix freezer icing and warm fridge temps by replacing a faulty defrost timer. Typical DIY repair takes 15-30 minutes with basic tools and a multimeter.
I took the bottom tray out of the freezer and found the coils iced up severely. I was reasonably sure the defrost timer was the problem and your tech said that was a good possibility. Ordered and replaced timer. (15 minutes) Problem fixed!!! Saved purchasing a new fridge at big bucks. Replaced both sets of door cams on my Kenmore Elite Refrigerator. The most important thing to know is that you DO NOT have to remove the doors from the refrigerator to replace BOTH sets of cams. You just have to remove the lower grill which is a snap fit (I also turned off the water and unplugged the unit). Ordered the gasket kit. The shipping time was quick. The installation was more difficult than anticipated. The inside of the door had to be removed there were about 30 hex head screws. the new gasket then had to be fitted to the interior of the door and then placed on the outer part of the door and the screws replaced. This thermostat is a temperature safety device that opens the circuit if temperatures climb beyond the safe threshold. Replacing a failed thermostat helps protect the appliance from overheating and restores normal heating performance.
Tested start relay and fan with multimeter both passed. The condenser would start only if the thermostat was on the highest setting and the refrigerator would cool for a while, stop and not restart unless I adjusted the defrost timer. Decided to replace the thermostat, defrost timer and defrost thermostat. The refrigerator is working as expected. FYI on a Kenmore 59669142992 the defrost timer is located under the freezer in the front right. Read more
