This is a small spur gear used in the drawer glide assembly, typically on the left side of a refrigerator or freezer drawer. It meshes with the drawer track mechanism to allow smooth opening and closing. Replace this gear if the drawer is difficult to slide, feels rough or catches when pulled out, or if the original gear teeth are worn or broken.

I knew it was the heater element because I have replaced a few over the years. Replacement icemaker fill tube that directs water from the valve to the ice tray. Replace if cracked, leaking, or causing water to freeze in the freezer.
Replaced the water tube that went from the plastic tubing to the ice cube tray. Found that even though it was the same exact length as the original, there was only an extremely small gap from the end of the tube to a splash board. This may have been the root cause of my problems. Read more

I had had the same problem 4 or 5 years ago and spent close to $200 to repair it. I did have the slip from that repair with part #'s so I went ahead and ordered a defrost timer and thermostat. Replaced both sets of door cams on my Kenmore Elite Refrigerator. The most important thing to know is that you DO NOT have to remove the doors from the refrigerator to replace BOTH sets of cams. You just have to remove the lower grill which is a snap fit (I also turned off the water and unplugged the unit). I had to replace the entire ice Bin Assembly rather than just the plastic fin on the auger which broke. I could not find a way to buy the plastic fin only. Replacement was obviously easy -- pull the old bin out and slide the new bin in. Less than 1 minute. The Dairy Door was an easy replacement also. I took the bottom tray out of the freezer and found the coils iced up severely. I was reasonably sure the defrost timer was the problem and your tech said that was a good possibility. Ordered and replaced timer. (15 minutes) Problem fixed!!! Saved purchasing a new fridge at big bucks.
