The fuel filter works similarly to the air filter for a carburetor, filtering debris from the fuel. The carburetor’s job is to mix clean air with gasoline to create combustible fuel for the engine to burn. Contaminants in the carburetor can clog it and prevent it from running efficiently. If your engine is running rough or not starting at all, it's time to check on your carburetor. It may need cleaning, repair, or replacement. Before you start that process, make sure the air filter and the fuel filter are both clean.
