How to Troubleshoot & Replace Bosch AP5972147 / 00631200 Drain Pump

Following the advice of AppliancePartsPros.com, replacing the drain pump fixed the issue....I even found a small toy lodged in the impeller which likely burned out the motor. The video provided was overall accurate, but my model required a bit more work to gain access. This included removing the front door, then kick plate, then bottom access cover, then sound proofing. It wasn't as simple as tilting the machine up like the video showed, but still was a pretty straightforward job. 

I Googled the error codes. Watched YouTube videos on diagnostics and when I came to a conclusion that the pump was malfunctioning I ordered a new one. . It was reasonably priced and shipped to my house within three days. The best part was the video they provided on how to change out the pump. I am not a very handy person, but the AppliancePartsPros video made it super simple. 

First checked the filter in the bottom of dishwasher. It wasn’t plugged. Then checked the drain lines to the airflow device and they were fine. Decided to change out the pump at that time. Watched a video on how to repair it. Made sure something I wanted to get myself into. Ordered part (pump). However, my dishwasher was not like the one in the video underneath it. Mine had a white plastic pan attached to catch any water leaked but it also greatly limits accessing the pump. It’s still doable but you’ll need small hands and lots of towels to soak up the water that will drain into the pan after you remove the pump. BE SURE TO dry the entire pan from both sides of the dishwasher before putting it back into place or you will see an ER-15 code. Which will not let your dishwasher run. Once this has been done and the insulation put back over the sides you can slide it back under the counter. Took me about 4 hours from start to finish cleaning up and check the drain lines. Runs great so far. A $100 fix for pump, taxes, freight. Vs $1100.00 for a new one..

YouTubed changing pump on Bosch dishwasher. It’s the same trouble to replace the drain and circulation pumps. If you’re unsure what’s wrong just change them both. Relatively easy. If the electrician didn’t leave you a long enough cord. Go buy a sacrificial extension cord. And you won’t be limited the next time you repair it. 

I found videos on how to replace the noisy circulation pump, and after some research, I ordered the circulation pump and drain pump from the website. The parts arrived earlier than expected and were the correct parts. The video I was watching was not the same model of dishwasher that I had so there was some delay in getting everything installed. Once accomplished tho, it's nice to have our quiet and efficient dishwasher back, and I have my man card restored back to rock star status! Paid the repair guy $185.00 for a service call. Replaced one pump. Still didn’t work. He said $600.00 to replace the heater and pump. I refused to pay for it. So I purchased the two parts for $200.00 and in an hour had the dishwasher back in the cabinet running. The lesson is to do it yourself the first time. 

I replaced the drain pump and now it works like new. It originally started as an E15 error, which means the float at the bottom of the dishwasher was tripping the sensor because of water. I cleaned it and then noticed the water bladder on the side of the machine had food in it so I replaced that part, which was very easy to do. Once the E15 error cleared, the E 23 error came up and I knew it was the drain pump after some research online. All of the repairs were very easy to do!!!! Oh and AppliancePartsPros.com shipped my part quickly and I got it the next day.

Steps to repairing a dishwasher. First, troubleshoot to solve the problem of water not draining. Respond to the smart dishwasher by reading the code telling you it is related to the drain pump. Call a repair company you have liked in the past. Try three times to get through to them, and finally make an appointment, but first provide them with the code on the dishwasher. Also, give the model number and brand of the Bosch dishwasher. Wait on the day of the appointment, and no one shows up. Wait until someone comes out a couple of days later, with the drain pump. Let them install the pump and say it is a defective part. They leave, and you never hear from them again. At least they would not take payment until they came back with the part. After several days, call them. They don't have the part. Call another company. They refuse to promise to come with the part, but they come out. They jack around with the dishwasher and pretend the electric control panel (which I knew was working earlier) had gone out. They look up that it would be $400 to replace. We agree that's too much. Pay for a service call. With your wife, watch youtube videos from appliancepartspros.com. Order a non-defective pump from them. Follow the video, and remove the installed "defective" pump, which is not the same as the original. Install the pump, and enjoy having a working dishwasher again! Thanks Appliance Pros.
