How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP5306469 / 297237702 Compressor Start Relay

I replaced the Capacitor-run and the Controller- TSD. 

Compressor would start and run for only about 10 sec so refrigerator and freezer never got cold. Determined that the most likely problem was the compressor start device. Ordered the start device and run capacitor which was received in only 2 days. Replaced the parts in about 30 min and the fridge was up an running again. The only difficulty was getting the power wires out of the old start device. They have crimp on spade connectors and were very tight. Had to use a small flat-blade screw driver to pry them loose. After that, putting things back together went smoothly. 

I tested the fan outside of the freezer with an adapted direct plug-in cord and it ran fine. I tested the controller tsd it was within the good range along with the run capacitor and it tested good as well. I then tested the compressor resistance, it tested good, although the compressor could have been mechanically bad, it wasn't and I don't know of a way to test for it. I found a youtube video and tested the defrost control which seemed to be bad. Then I tested the control-temperature control and it seemed to be bad too. Turing the defrost timer and it did nothing. My wife then wanted to get a new freezer. We shopped around and there were no freezers anywhere due to coved 19. So I ordered all of the parts above except for the compressor and for just over $200 the freezer now works just like new. We are extremely happy with the results. For this repair, you will need to know something about a test meter and guess what YouTube has some tutorials for the basics, good luck! I hope this helps. 

White freezer replaced Controller Tsd. Plugged freezer Up Compressor started freezing like a new one. Black freezer replaced Control-Electronic,assy on outside of door. Plugged freezer up compressor came on working like a new one. Be careful removing Control Board. I used a plastic egg spatula to remove board so I wouldn't scratch the door paint. Look at your new part the way it attaches to door.Pry on each end little little till it comes off. 

Ordered new switch, but part was slightly different than original, and white plug didn't fit. Called customer service and was advised to find clips at radio shack to connect to new relay. A little extra work, but seems to be working fine now. Customer service very helpful. 

Got the "start relay" installed in 5 minutes or less. 

My compressor for my Frigidaire kept going on and off constantly after a lightening strike. I researched on this site and bought the start relay for the compressor . It was $52. While I was at it I bought the Capacitor that attaches to the relay. It was only $15. I replaced both and re plugged in my refrigerator and the refrigerator started up and kept running. The sound of ice dropping in the freezer was a beautiful thing. It was very easy to switch out parts. I’m glad I took a photo of the old parts before detaching the wires or I would have been confounded which order the red and blue wire reattached. The parts had a slight configuration difference understandable as my frig is 16 yrs old. But it was easy to figure out. Appliance parts pros saved me $1500 for a new frig or even the costly appliance repairman. The shipping was $10 and came in a day and a half. This site is the best! 

I replaced the start relay and capacitor. 

I thought that the start cap might be bad, but that was not the problem. The start-up device was the problem, and the compressor started up and works as it should. The many video tutorials on You-tube really helped figure out the cause of it not working, 

Planned ahead just in case! Did research and figured we need the Run Capacitor because there was a clicking sound that had been happening for a while when the compressor was trying to kick in, temp inside set off freezer alarm when it went over 22 degree. Glad we bought the Tsd also (for just in case) because the capacitor (cheapest part $26.74 that should have fixed issue) was remade a bit bigger than original part and would not snap together properly and the ONLY way to make the capacitor fit was to use the Tsd ($67.70) which has the original size sets on the plug in side to the compressor to make them snap together and plug in proper, it took us a few extra minutes because we debated on opening the Tsd because didn't want to open a part and waste money that may not be needed, but it definitely was needed to make it all snap together and all is working GREAT!
