The Compressor Start Relay is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. This essential component is responsible for initiating the compressor's start-up process by supplying power to the compressor motor. It helps kickstart the compressor, allowing it to begin the cooling cycle.

A faulty start relay or overload can occur due to wear and tear over time, electrical issues, or component failure.

Signs of a bad start relay may include:

  • The refrigerator not cooling properly or not cooling at all
  • Unusual noises coming from the compressor area
  • The compressor fails to start or repeatedly cycles on and off

This OEM Frigidaire part can also be used on Electrolux, Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator, Westinghouse, and Sears/Kenmore.

Questions & Answers

For Frigidaire Compressor Start Relay (Part Number: OEM15919416)

1 Answer

Jeff, the starting device can rattle if it uses a ceramic disc between the start and run relay. The relays can vary so this is not an accurate way to diagnose the relay unless it is verified to be this type. Commonly, the symptoms that are occurring within your unit are a result of the relay 241941005 not switching from the start windings to the run windings.

Jeff, For this issue you will want to check to see if the compressor is running. If the compressor is not running then the start relay may be bad. If the compressor is running then check the evaporator coils to see if they are frozen over or if there is very little frost pattern . If there is very little then this would be a sealed system issue and will need service.

Hello Jim. You need to test for power to the compressor and fan motor. If not, then check the temp control and defrost timer to see if either is bad and is causing the issue with the unit.

Hello: not having much luck with our Frigidaire Pro Series side by side. The compressor and fan will start and freeze but when it gets to minus 20 or so the compressor turns off and will not restart unless we unplug the unit, reset the freezer thermostat to off, cycle back on and reset the thermostat. The compressor and fan will restart and run until minus 20 or so, shut off and start the whole reset process again. We had a local appliance guy in who changed out the damper door. This stopped the lettuce from getting frozen but it did nothing to get this unit back to being reliable. The other day I ordered and installed a new ADC control box and wiring harness. It still refuses to restart on its own. I've put an ohmn meter on the start capacitor and it seems ok. What can we do to fix this beautiful but completely useless appliance? Thank you

Blake, The most likely cause for the unit to get to -20 in the freezer and then not turn back on would be a faulty temperature control for the freezer side which would be part number 5304496561.

Hello AL. It sounds like you have sealed system failure and will need an HVAC tech to repair the unit.

2006 fridge. Freezer and fridge cool and then warm up.. It seems like it cycles. When auto defrost comes on it cools down to zero then warms up again after evap coil frosts up. I replaced control board only to find out it throws a 4 code on fridge side of control board. Are the new boards compatible with the old dampeners? The old board did not throw an error code. Also it didn't change a thing. Still cycling. Also only top half of evap coils frosts on the outer half?

Frank, We have checked and verified that you have ordered the correct part for the model number you supplied. The start device should be 297237702 and the capacitor 297286803, these are "substitute" part numbers from the manufacturer. They may be slightly different than the original parts. In most cases, the size of the terminals have been changed from 1/4 inch terminals to 1/8 inch terminals. You may have to go by the local hardware store, auto supply or home improvement center or "Radio Shack" and pick up some replacement terminals.

The fridge and freezer will run cold, then like get stuck in defrost mode, the ice in the bin will start to melt, then it will get cold again. Sometimes it won't get cold again for a couple of hours. I have replaced the run capacator and still didn't fix the problem. Does it sound like I need to change the Controller Tsd? Or maybe the defrost thermostat? It's like the compressor just won't kick on. But when it does kick on, it works, the freezer will go down to zero
