How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2031097 / WB44X5099 Oven Heating Element

Removed old heating element & replaced with new one. One phone call with Tracey, about a 10 minute call. 60+ year old GE wall oven with questionable model number. Cost was very reasonable, shipping options and cost were great. Had the element the next day and oven has been working like new.

I started by calling AppliancePartsPros.com My range is a 1960 GE 40 inch range. My model number is not listed. By calling Appliance Parts Pros and talking to Shiela the correct part was determined even though my model number was not in the system. Sheila told me she would ask one of the technicians. She was back on the line very quickly with the info. I called early enough in the day that the element went out the same day. 2 days later I received the parts and made the repair. Thank you. 

I ordered a replacement oven heater element from AppliancePartsPRO and installed it in the oven. 

Ordered the parts from you and plugged them in and now it works perfectly. 

Removed the bad element and contacted Appliance Parts Pros. I couldn't find the part on my own. The people at APP found the part on their computers and shipped it fast. Put the new element in and all is well. Very nice people. 

Replaced old element with the new , but it would not work. After taking out the broil element, found that the wire leading from it ,to the bake element had come loose . The old bake element was good ,but replaced it with the new. Rewired with new wire , and it works fine. Thank you for the new element . Thanks to Grat for the courteous and helpful service. Knowing Thanksgiving was on Thursday I went on line to find an element for a 1958 GE range? This range has more Chrome than a 1959 Cadillac. I punched in appliance parts and found your web site. At first I tried the model number without success. I went to the kitchen again and removed the element. There I found a part number on the mounting plate. Went back to the computer, punched in the number and be darned if you didn't have 100 elements. Placed the order that night. Confirmed the order the next morning. Had them shipped overnight. Received them the next afternoon. Installed it the evening of the 25th and Thanksgiving was a success. Thank You, Appliance Parts Pros! 

I ordered a replacement oven heating element online, spent about an hour removing the old element and installing the new one right there in my kitchen, with my own tools. I'm a retired Maintenance/repairman/carpenter with about 30 years experience, so this was not especially difficult for me. It cost 40-some dollars for the element, plus an additional $40-some for expedited shipping, so I had the part within 5 days of ordering it. I also spent about $25 to purchase replacement drip-pans for the range-top from my local Ace Hardware store, as those also needed replacing. Altogether, these repairs cost me about $110, far less than having to replace the whole appliance. I'm waiting to see if my landlord will reimburse me. 

I turned the power off to my range from the fuse box. Then you just have to take the screws out from the back. Pull the bad element out where you’ll see it connected to wires in the back. Disconnect the wiring that’s connected to the black n red connections. Replace with the new heating element reconnecting everything in the process. Put it back in place. Put your screws back in, that hold the element in place. Then turn it all back on to check it. Also you’re going to smell a factory coating the first few times you use it. So if you don’t want to smell that while making a meal. Take about 3 separate times of starting the oven, and turning the stove on low to get rid of the smell first, but that’s only if you care. It won’t harm anything if you don’t.
