How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP5950081 / EAU61524007 Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor

After clearing ice from the freezer fan area (twice) did not solve the problem, we presumed that the freezer fan/motor had stopped functioning. We looked up the parts on AppliancePartsPros website and ordered. The parts arrived within a day and a half. After watching a couple of installation videos, the parts were fairly easily replaced using standard screwdrivers. The freezer now works great! 

After searching online for more information about the error code and determining what the problem was (since we did not receive any helpful information in owner's manual), I ordered the part (ice maker fan) and also ordered the evaporator fan motor (since they are on the same panel) from AppliancePartsPros.com. When I removed the panel where the fans/motors are, the ice maker fan was sticky -- it would grind when trying to turn it by hand. I replaced both fans/motors on the panel and put the panel back on (getting the freezer drawers, door, and panel out was the part that took the longest). 

OMG, there were videos to tell me just how and what to take off to get to the repair. It was amazing. It was a challenge knowing I could do it as a woman. We ended up changing about 6 to 8 parts..ice maker, water valve, three fans, thermostats. Was about to change out the control board when I found out the compressor was still in warranty. There was a little light on the control board which appliancepartspros personnel even walked me thru that it was either the control board or the compressor which was causing a flashing light on the control board to flash. I ended up calling Sears and had a service tech come out and tell me if it was compressor and he determined it was and changed it out with little cost for other parts. Appliancepartspros was so helpful. They walked me thru replacing the ice maker on three refrigerators. I'm a pro now and a woman of age 74 at that. 

After I got the parts I looked up a Youtube video on making repairs to a Kenmore Refrigerator. Even though the models shown were slightly different, I managed to disassemble the freezer and back panel and change out the parts. So far the ice maker has been working perfectly. You got me the right parts for a good price and gave excellent delivery. You also recommended I get the additional fan blade and fan motor, which I also replaced. Hopefully this will prevent any future failures so I don't have to go through another disassembly. 

I ordered the wrong part so couldn't fix the problem however when I took the freezer panel apart to see the motor and fan, I realized it was full of ice which caused the fan to stop working. Once I realized I had ordered the wrong part number, I called Appliance Parts Pros for advise. They asked for the frig serial number and were able to provide the correct part. The mistake I made was to trust what I read online. I should have asked the experts first. With ice removed from the cooling fan area and without replacing the motor, the ice maker works fine now. The second motor and fan I received, will be kept on hand for when this problem happens again. I must say that I was very impressed with AppliancePartsPros advice and with a customer focused attitude. From now on my first call for appliance help will definitely be with AppliancePartsPros. I returned the motor that I had ordered incorrectly and waiting for a refund. Thank you APP as you have a happy customer. 

Replaced the ice fan in the freezer compartment. Motor and fan assembly The fan guide I ordered was not the one that fits my model. Re-installing the tray guides was tricky. Installing the fan went fine. 

I spoke with Erika G in customer support. Based on the error messages on the refrigerator she quickly identified the proper parts and provided both a parts diagram and a YouTube video to help with the replacement project. Accessing the motors is a bit tricky but doable if you take your time. It is necessary to remove all of the shelving and some of the side panels. The refrigerator was back up and running in just a couple of hours. 

Appliance repair co wanted to charge $857 to make repairs. I entered my fridge model number, purchased the item, pulled up the video of the tech showing how to repair. The video was a life saver. I had no experience with appliance repairs, The detailed video gave me the confidence to repair it properly. I am grateful! 

The video attached to the part made the repair easy. Usually I always prepare myself for Murphy’s Law that something would go wrong, but no plastic pieces broke and the fan was easy to replace. Very repair friendly part.
