Did a factory reset (press normal, heat dry, normal, heat dry, normal) and a diagnostic self test (high temp, air dry, high temp, air dry), but nothing solved the problem. I had read this is a common problem problem and it was a bad control board. Our dishwasher was 4 years old, but seeing as this is a vacation home, it probably only had about 3 months total use.
Turn off the power at the breaker, remove the top six screws (torx), pull off the control panel. Lift the three tabs that hold the cover on the inside of the panel, unplug the surface connections by pressing the tabs and pulling. Release the tabs holding the left edge of the board and rotate the board up. Release the edge connectors (tabs again). Remove the cancel/drain button. Reverse the order and your finished.
Be sure you discharge and static from yourself by touching any metal part of the dishwasher often (its grounded) and handle the circuit board by the edge. Although probably not necessary, I performed the factory reset after replacing the board).
