How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013245 / WP8559751 Door Handle

Relatively easy fix with a little reading from this site. I taped each screw to the corresponding hole since all of them have different dimensions and lengths. If you just unscrew them and set them aside it would be a problem putting them back into the proper hole. DO NOT remove the hexhead screws, they hold the window on and don't need to be removed. Otherwise a quick and necessary fix. 

Got part number off internet; shopped for best price; ordered and received part; got replacement instructions off internet; did it! 

Remove the phillips head screws from back of door. (No need to remove Torx head screws). There are several different size screws so tape screws to door as you remove them so you can easily install them back into the correct holes. Plastic door front slips off the front. Remove two screws for the broken handle and reinstall everything. Powered screwdriver makes quick work. Super Easy! 

Removed six screws from back of dryer door with a Phillips head screwdriver. Took off plastic casing from door. Removed and replaced the cracked handle. Reattached plastic casing to the door. Took about 10 minutes. 

My wife left for a week to visit her parents, I tried to open the dryer and broke the handle. In a panic I went to the internet and found the correct part on AppliancePartsPros.com, I placed the order, and to my amazement they shipped the part the very next day. It arrived and I was able to repair the broken handle before my wife returned... Close Call but APP came through. Good service, will use them again! 

Replaced the ignitor. Works like a charm better than it had in awhile, so I guess the ignitor efficiency was diminished for some time. Should’ve changed it sooner, so will know this for next time. The repair took longer than it should have because I didn’t recall how the bracket went in and it is difficult to get to allowing only one hand. Once I figured out the bracket it only took one hand though. Tips: General - take pictures before you remove something and keep all of the hardware. Needed a sheet metal screw from original bracket. Ignitor - attach ignitor to bracket with long screw provided and screw in 1/4-in sheet metal screw to bracket a turn or two to stay in bracket. Bracket has a tab that goes in a slot and a sheet metal screw. Place bracket in position inserting tab into slot and hand tighten screw. Then use small socket wrench to finish tightening. In the end only needed to remove two sheet metal screws on lower front dryer panel and the two screws for the ignitor. The ignitor plug is shaped so it can only be plugged one way, which helps a lot. The dryer had a lot of lint build up inside, which took a long time to clean out. Really need to do this regularly. Manufacturer recommends every two years. 

Repeating two of the critical tips I got from others on your site: TAPE each screw by the hole it comes out of, as they're all different. Do NOT remove the hex screws that hold the glass onto the door. Unnecessary to the fix. I had a hard time lining everything up so I fumbled around for more than the generally agreed 15 minutes, but it should have been as easy as everyone has said it is. I used one Phillips screwdriver. 

I read through the reviews so as to NOT remove additional screws and the door handle was replaced in less than 10 minutes.
