I used a putty knife to loosen the top part of the washer, pivoted it up and used a screwdriver to unscrew the hinge and hinge pin. It was easier with someone holding the top while I screwed everything back together. The lid works fine now. AppliancePartsPros video on Youtube is a must see if you want to do this in a few minutes or don't see it if you want this to be an ordeal. The trick is to loosen the top part that pivots up.
