How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013208 / WP8558753 User Interface (Platinum)

By researching on the internet and AppliancePartsPros.com, I figuredou it was the actual control panel that was bad. Ordered a new one and replaced it myself. With your money back guarantee, I knew I could return the part at no cost if it didn't fix the problem. Also had the part, installed it and had the dryer back up and working in 2 days! The repair company said the quickest they could be out was 8 days AND the service call just to get them to come out was as much as the part! Thanks for all the help! 

I had to order a replacement for the controller board. The repair went very easily and was successful, but I wasn't please that the controller is the most expensive part in the machine costing my $270 for a curcuit board with some buttons. 

Dryer had only a few dim lights on the front and would not power on. Replaced the electronic control board and it seems to have fixed the problem. Glad we could do it ourselves without paying a professional to do it. 

Diagnosed problem by checking resistance changes on pins as control buttons are pressed as described in the Whirlpool service manual. The exact part that my dyer needed with is no longer available. The Appliance Part Pro.com website listed 3 other control interfaces that would work with my dryer. I ordered one of the alternate panels and it arrived quickly. Installation was simple and straight forward, except for some button to hole alignment. Ended up having the enlarge the holes on the "Cycle End" and "Temperature" buttons because of a slight misalignment (0.050") to allow them freely move and reset when pressed. Dryer was fixed and running within 48hrs of diagnosis of the problem. 

By watching videos 1st although none on this subject it was a slower process being expensive part Thier are two three sleeves to line up so all fits tight so I had to do this job twice to correct that issue not a big deal 

Replaced the user interface with parts obtained from Appliance Part Pros. Nine screws to remove to access part, two wires to disconnect to remove part and reverse the process to install new piece. Dryer was once again operational. Bets part - the old user interface was returnable for a $60 core charge refund. Old part was shipped back to the company the following day the repairs were made. 

Test points on interface board showed nearly double DC resistance as specified. All other tests (thermal resistor, for example) were in spec. So we have a nine-year old dyer needing a $300 (with shipping) part. Not a wise move were it not for the 365 day warranty from APP. Given the part warranty, if the dryer fails for any reason during the year, the board can be returned. If the dryer doesn't fail, we get a $900 dryer for $300. The repair absolutely did not make financial sense without the APP warranty. Note: time of 1-2 hours included initial disassembly, testing and reassembly with new part. 

We followed the instructions found online to replace the part - it entailed removing the dryer top, unseating the electronics board and removing the damaged part's connectors, then removing the console and the touch assembly to replace it with the new part. It took us a while to get the old part out because the clips were super tight and we were being extra careful not to break anything along the way. All in all - never having attempted anything like that before we were really happy with the outcome! 

I replaced the control board. Replacement was simple but there was a problem with the function switch. After talking to a Parts Pro tech I removed the function switch board and realigned it with the switch shaft. So far it''s working great. Ordered the part on Friday and got it Saturday.
