Color: Platinum - This is a Whirlpool dryer user interface. It sits behind the outer control panel on top of the dryer and manages and monitors the dryer's cycles. The user interface can short out due to power surge or exposure to excessive heat or moisture. If the dryer is not responding to user input, the control has likely shorted out. Before installing this part, be sure to disconnect power to the appliance and allow it to cool completely. The dryer will need to be pulled away from the wall to access the screws holding the outer control panel in place. Remove the screws from each side of the control panel to gain access to the old control. Disconnect any wire harnesses connected to it and remove any screws mounting it in place before installing the new part. This is a genuine OEM part compatible with dryers manufactured by Whirlpool brands, including Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and others. This product contains no additional parts or hardware.

Brandy, with the knob removed, the tabs would be the only thing holding the user control to the facia. It is common for one or two tabs to seat back into the locking position when trying to unlock the other tabs. If there are popsicle sticks available, they can be used to place in between the tabs and where they lock in place to help remove the console.

My Whirlpool Duet Dryer is 13 years old. For the past six months I have only been able to use it with manual cycles and timed drying. It would not function on automatic cycles. The last time I tried to use it, all the controls shut off and were unusable but then later came back on. I was able to complete my laundry after restarting it several times. I unplugged the unit and today tried plugging it back in and trying the unit. This time all the controls lit up and appeared to be useable again but "froze" after pressing a few times. Obviously, the controls are responding very erratically and I never know now what to expect when I try to operate the machine. Also, there is a constant faint light evident in two of the buttons. When the controls function, the dryer seems to be doing its job properly.

Thom, Based on this information it appears that the issue will be a faulty main control board or wiring issue between the user interface and main board.

Mary, Some other things that will cause your dryer not to run are WP3392519 thermal fuse and WP8283288 door switch. Don't forget to make sure you have 240 vac at the pigtail coming to the dryer from the wall. And obviously, make sure the belt is not broke this unit does have a belt switch which stops the motor from turning if the belt is broke.

Hello Kenneth, The difference here is the color of the buttons on the interface board. The model number provided calls for pewter colored buttons WP8558756.

Charles, You will want to clean the sensor bars with rubbing alcohol and then test to see if it continues to do this. If this continues then the issue would be in the main control board of the unit.

Hello Katie. You will need to check the door switch, thermal fuse, and look for a broke belt. Either of these can cause the unit not to run.

In the last year i've had issues with this dryer intermittently beeping while we're drying cloths. We thought the control board was getting damp so we started leaving the door open on the dryer when we were done and that seemed to help. Now the mode selector switch seems to be acting up. I've run into scenarios where, if i touch the knob slightly while it's running, it will beep repeatedly yet continue to run like normal. This AM my wife went to dry cloths and the light on the selector was stuck on "touch up". No matter what she selected and it wouldn't even start (even on "touch up") so she unplugged. I plugged it back in this PM and everything seems fine. I'm suspecting it's the switch on the interface which i assume would mean i need a whole new interface but defer to your thoughts. Thank You.
