How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013694 / WP9704230 Blender Drive Coupler

I followed the directions on the video and on the instructions enclosed with the replacement part.

Watched You Tube & read your previous people tips. Very easy once you figure it out. Easy removal of old coupler. Need screwdriver to pry up sides of old coupler then hemostat to hold the small rod in place while unscrewing old coupler clockwise. New coupler has to be screwed on lightly counterclockwise. Works fine now. Cost w/S & H was $16. 

I found the part on-line and watched a movie of how to repair it. Although the black gum substance came off easily, it was embedded in a metal washer like object with a screw hole in it. That metal piece must come off the metal drive and the way to do it is by whacking it off. I had better luck by prying it up and off with a screw driver. Once you get it off, clean off any screw metal residue and screw the new on back on. Job is done. 

Ordered the replacement part and it came with instructions.

Very easy to fix. Literally took less than 5 minutes. 

I've done this a few times before.... First, ignore the instructions to use a screwdriver to pry off the old drive coupler. The coupler is only held on by left handed threads that have tightened. Use a rubber mallet to give the rubber coupler a hit along the outer edge with a clockwise spin. It normally only takes a few blows for the coupler to break loose and spin off. A good edge hit rubber-on-rubber will break it loose. Then it just spins itself off. The new coupler screws on counter-clockwise. 

I looked up a diagnosis on YouTube and removed the damaged coupler. I looked up sources of the replacement parts. I ordered the part and screwed it in when I received it and tested it. The blender now appeared to work again.
