How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6023629 / WPW10655368 Drip Pan

Replaced drain tube with redesigned part purchased from AppliancePartsPros, with excellent service and installation help, as follows: - Found removal of original drain tube difficult due to the clip in the connection at the drain pan, which required a flat narrow screwdriver or awl to pry loose the connection at the drip pan between the drain tube and the molded base at the clip carefully to avoid cracking the drip pan. - Connecting the drain tube at the top to the refrigerator drain tube was eased by applying teflon plumbers tape to the tube, which has a molded rib, to enable sliding the rubber spacer ring over the rib, and applying lubricant (waterproof bike grease) to the refrigerator tube to allow the tight fitting drain tube flange all the way up against the refrigerator panel. - Used hairdrier to melt ice in freezer compartment. My refrigerator model includes ice maker in the freezer compartment which could cause melting/evaporation of ice in tray that condenses on the freezer vents. Recommend not storing ice in the ice tray and turn off ice maker when not in use! 

Took off back panel - 5 min Disconnect water valve and fan leads - 1 min Remove freezer defrost drain line - 2 min Remove Fan - 1 Hr Be careful not to damage anything Replace Pan - 1 min Install new Pan - 1 min Install fan - 5 min much easier than taking it out Reconnect elec connectors for fan and install drain line - 1 min Reconnect water valve elec connectors and remount panel - 10 min. Put fridge back in place and relevel with front leg adjusters.- 10 min Done - easier than I thought 

Looked at the diagrams, spoke with a rep and found there were only three parts that could be the issue. Started with the least expensive part and replaced each one until the problem was resolved. The "how to" videos made the removal and replacement very easy. 

Used Appliance Parts Pros instructional video for My brand and model of refrigerator. - removed back panel - removed evaporator fan removed old cracked drain pan - installed new drain pan (much thicker and stronger plastic than original). - reinstalled evaporator fan - replaced back panel 

Replaced drip pan and drain hose. 

I followed the video, but found the fan came out a lot easier when I sprayed around it with silicone. I sprayed silicone on the new tray and the fan slid back in place very easily. When I ordered the part, it was shipped the next day and I got it two days after I ordered it. 

Problem started with water dripping out the front of the freezer. A simple Google search identified a design flaw in the drain tube of this Whirlpool freezer. Ordered the drain tube from appliancepartspros.com and installed rather easily with the help of the installation video on the website. A day later, the water was now under the freezer. Turns out I cracked the drip pan while installing the drain tube. One more quick order, quick shipping, and quick video later, the new drip pan was installed under my new drain tube. Problem solved! Thanks to the videos and instructions on appliancepartspros.com I was able to do this myself and save money by not calling a professional. Excellent videos and very fast shipping. Thanks! 

Replaced the drip pan after cracking the old pan while trying to wiggle drain pipe into place. Despite how to videos, the easier way to install pipe seems to be to put the spacer into the drain pipe first, pinch below the spacer so as not to disappear into the pipe, then push it on to the upper receiving end. Go slow with the pan as it is a tight fit. Also used metal to metal epoxy on an flat head elevator bolt 1/4" x 1" glued to refrigerator, with wing nut bolt so as to secure the 1/4" hole in the drain pipe to the refrigerator. After the pipe was in place with elevator bolt and wing nut, I pulled down the bolt, applied epoxy with toothpick, then held in place for 10 minutes for initial set. In the end, came out perfect. 

Replaced the drain hose and drip pan with new parts from Appliance Parts Pros. I used the how-to videos that Appliance Parts Pros provided on the website, they were very helpful!
