How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008107 / WP3363394 Washer Drain Pump

With much trepidation, I Googled leaking washing machines and deduced that our problem was likely (but not certain) that we needed to replace the direct drive washer pump. After viewing the AppliancePartsPros video, I decided that ordering the $30 part was worth the risk (vs a $120 plus service call). The pump arrived w/in 2 days and my wife and I experienced an enjoyable bonding experience installing it :). But it's now working great and there is no leak. ... Kudos to AppliancePartsPros for a great video that enabled me to replace the part w/o too much effort, and saved us at least $100! 

I propped the washer up and found where the leak was coming from. The drain pump is easy to take off and easy to install. I used a flathead screwdriver to pop the metal clips off. I used pliers to take the hose clamps off. The installation was just as easy. 

It was a simple fix. Flipped over the unit, checked out my hoses were in good shape, and moved on to the washer pump. Bought it here on this website, watched the installation video, and had it replaced in no time! No more leaks! I've never taken apart a washing machine, but the "how to" videos make it a snap. 

The repair was surprisingly simple. Once I tilted and supported the washing machine up in the front and ran it, I discovered water profusely leaking from around the water pump. The water pump was quite easy to remove, only needing the inlet and output water hoses removed and the two clips snapped back. This was done with the front of the washer tilted up and supported. The water pump went on easily in reverse order, and voila! Problem solved. 

I searched YouTube and found several videos that helped me diagnose the most probable cause. I learned how to open the cabinet and access the parts from the videos. I ordered a new discharge hose and a replacement pump. The parts came in the next day with the standard shipping option! It turned out that the old discharge hose was blocked. I decided to replace the pump also since I had the machine open and the new pump was only $22. It's amazing what you can learn online! 

Replaced internal drain hose. and while I was in there I changed some known wear items. water pump,direct drive coupling tub to pump hose and a spring 

It was easy my husband did it in about 15 mins! 

Since it could be the pump or the motor or both. I replaced both the motor and the pump. I followed the video on replacing the pump and also replacing the motor. The pump had leaked and rusted the bottom clip. I ordered the motor, couplings, pump, and the clip. The first 3 I received on Wed. which came from Illinois and the clip on Thurs. which came from Texas?? Not sure why. I was able to replace the motor and pump and waited for the bottom clip. Finished on Thurs. Even though the motor and couplings were not the same as the old ones I carefully measured the distances and it did work. Was not as easy as the videos, but it did work. This was an old washer and your videos do not show all of the cleaning that takes time. The washer now works like new. 

First I had to get the washer into an open area so I turned the water off and take hose fittings off of water valve in wall. Also unplug and remove drain hose from dump. To remove instrument panel and housing I used the website applianceassistant.com, there is a good video on how to do so. It is very easy. Make sure to keep track of any hardware removed. After housing was pulled away at the bottom/front of the wash tub you will see a plastic white piece that has two hoses going to it (discharge pump). Use the pliers to loosen the clamps and remove the hoses. There are two metal clamps holding the pump in place, one on top and bottom use a flat head screw driver to pop the clips out of place. You will be able to pull the pump off at this point. On mine at the bottom of the pump housing there was a discolored (Brown) area where the water was leaking. I also ran some water through the bottom opening of the pump to make sure that was the problem. To install the new one just reverse the steps. I found this to be a very easy fix, no electrical testing needed and part was easily accessed. 

Washer was about 7 years old and was leaking from bottom when tub had water in it. The hose from the pump motor to tub had a crack so I replaced it. While the machine was open, I also went ahead and replaced the long drain hose that went from the pump motor to the drain and also the pump motor as well. I also ended up replacing my hot and cold water inlet hoses from the wall to unit as those looked worn as well.
