How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013629 / WP912652 Dishwasher Door Spring

Though I knew one spring was intact (I could see it) I assumed the other was broken. I did not pull the unit out until I received the new springs (I ordered two - prefer to replace both at same time). The replacement springs arrived a day earlier than expected. We pulled the dishwasher out from under the counter, exposing both sides. The suspect spring was not broken; instead, the plastic joiner used to connect the spring to the dishwasher had broken. Not wanting to delay repairing the unit, we cut & bent a stainless bicycle spoke (we own a bike store) to serve in place of the plastic joiner. We did this on both sides utilizing the new springs. We reinstalled the dishwasher under the counter. The new springs and 'fasteners' work great! 

Went online to Appliance Parts.com. Found the parts I needed. It was so easy. I watched the "how to" video, ordered the parts I wanted, and boom! Parts actually arrived in less than 24 hours. Faster than my amazon prime. Being 70 yrs old, it wasn't real easy for me. That's due to strength, getting up & down on the floor etc. Someone younger could do the job in 1/4 the time it took me. Was definitely cheaper than calling a repair person. I've used this website several times & am always pleased at the ease of finding what I need, & most important, how to make the repair. 

From this website, I figured out it was probably either a spring or a spring link that broke. Since I didn't want to pull out the dishwasher more than once, and could not tell which side was broken, I was glad I ordered two spring links AND two springs. Turns out the right side spring link was broken and when it snapped, the spring went flying somewhere out of sight. Went ahead and replaced both sides since the dishwasher is about 20 years old, so if one side was weak enough to break, the other would soon follow. The only issue I ran into that was not addressed in the video was that the new counter top was installed long after the dishwasher was installed, so had to adjust the leveling legs in order to clear the counter top when trying to pull the dishwasher out of the cabinet. Once that was done, the video pretty much covered what I needed to know. Thanks! 

I typed in my Maytag machine model number which took me to two sites with clear diagrams and videos of door spring replacement. Also AppliancePartsPROS.com appeared, which offered parts. Week one (Monday): with a little difficulty, and being very conscious of wiring and tubing, I pulled the washer out and discovered there was only one spring with connector installed, on the right side, but places for another set on the left. Neither spring or connector was broken, but I ordered two springs and two connectors to be on the safe side, thinking the spring had become weak. Week two (Sunday): with tools and new parts (delivered on Friday) in hand, I removed the one existing spring and connector and replaced them with new parts. The door wasn't right yet, so I installed the second set of parts on the left side. These installations were not too difficult, but they must be done very carefully, to avoid damage or being hurt. With both springs in place, the door opened and closed perfectly. The machine is on a wood floor, so sliding it back in place took a little muscle. This, too, must be done carefully to avoid damaging the new parts. I did not disable the electricity or water.

Went just like the video said using the correct replacement parts I got thru this web site Hardest part was getting our dishwasher out from under the cabinet because it was a very tight fit We replaced both sides even though only one side was broken just as a precaution FYI Parts arrived quickly after I placed my online order. 

Ordered Whirlpool Factory Certified Parts (door spring and link) from Appliance Parts Pros after I found the model number on their website. They also sent me some tablets that I can put in the dishwasher every month to make it smell nice. The dishwasher is so refreshed now! No squeaks and door opens beautifully. This is a great company. I'm so grateful they helped me renew my dishwasher. I will order additional dishwasher shelving units from them because mine are deteriorated after 18 years!! Bravo Whirlpool. My super did the work. He's great!! 

Replaced door spring link and spring (lost somewhere). Main difficulty was in safely pulling the appliance out from under the counter, the leveling feet were difficult to move. Spring itself was easy, as I still had 1 working on the opposite side to refer to. 

I ordered the highest % part an air sensor. But after I opened the dryer I found burnt main board and burnt wiring. The dryer is being replaced because of costs I will still by parts from here. The part showed up in 2-3 days Very fast service!!! 

Watched the repair videos and chatted with your customer service Pro. My repair parts are no longer manufactured nor available from the manufacturer. Appliance Parts Pro had the parts in stock and delivered them the next day. Great service and installation advice.
