George T Naples , FL September 27, 2014 Appliance: Model YOU LOOK AT MY ORDER Heard a loud bang and thought a door spring on my 20 year old maytag dishwasher had broken Without knowing exactly what broke I ordered 2 springs and 2 door spring links. I knew the door springs were weak and a parts man told me many years ago to always replace BOTH springs or the one you didn't replace will soon break. It is a simple procedure, just remember how the springs/links are attached. make a simple drawing or take a picture should you need it. I watched two "how to" video's which made it look harder to do than it really is. Turn the circuit breaker off and turn the dishwasher on to make sure it is turned off. I did not unhook anything since I was only pulling the washer out 6-8 inches which was enough to replace the springs and links. The hardest part is cleaning up the dirt you will find when you take the kick panel off. It's simple...you can do it. Janice B Portsmouth , NH September 05, 2014 Appliance: Maytag Dishwasher- Convertible MDC4000AWX The dishwasher door was dropping like a lead weight leading us to believe one of the springs had broken our dishwasher is 19 years old Though I knew one spring was intact (I could see it) I assumed the other was broken. I did not pull the unit out until I received the new springs (I ordered two - prefer to replace both at same time). The replacement springs arrived a day earlier than expected. We pulled the dishwasher out from under the counter, exposing both sides. The suspect spring was not broken; instead, the plastic joiner used to connect the spring to the dishwasher had broken. Not wanting to delay repairing the unit, we cut & bent a stainless bicycle spoke (we own a bike store) to serve in place of the plastic joiner. We did this on both sides utilizing the new springs. We reinstalled the dishwasher under the counter. The new springs and 'fasteners' work great! Alan H Painesville , OH July 29, 2018 Plastic door part broke allowing door to crash to the floor Went online to Appliance Parts.com. Found the parts I needed. It was so easy. I watched the "how to" video, ordered the parts I wanted, and boom! Parts actually arrived in less than 24 hours. Faster than my amazon prime. Being 70 yrs old, it wasn't real easy for me. That's due to strength, getting up & down on the floor etc. Someone younger could do the job in 1/4 the time it took me. Was definitely cheaper than calling a repair person. I've used this website several times & am always pleased at the ease of finding what I need, & most important, how to make the repair. Richard H Providence , RI June 02, 2015 Appliance: Maytag Dishwasher DWU4912AAE Dishwasher door dropped down heavily I typed in my Maytag machine model number which took me to two sites with clear diagrams and videos of door spring replacement. Also AppliancePartsPROS.com appeared, which offered parts. Week one (Monday): with a little difficulty, and being very conscious of wiring and tubing, I pulled the washer out and discovered there was only one spring with connector installed, on the right side, but places for another set on the left. Neither spring or connector was broken, but I ordered two springs and two connectors to be on the safe side, thinking the spring had become weak. Week two (Sunday): with tools and new parts (delivered on Friday) in hand, I removed the one existing spring and connector and replaced them with new parts. The door wasn't right yet, so I installed the second set of parts on the left side. These installations were not too difficult, but they must be done very carefully, to avoid damage or being hurt. With both springs in place, the door opened and closed perfectly. The machine is on a wood floor, so sliding it back in place took a little muscle. This, too, must be done carefully to avoid damaging the new parts. I did not disable the electricity or water. Christina L Castle Pines , CO February 28, 2017 Loud bang / heavy door From this website, I figured out it was probably either a spring or a spring link that broke. Since I didn't want to pull out the dishwasher more than once, and could not tell which side was broken, I was glad I ordered two spring links AND two springs. Turns out the right side spring link was broken and when it snapped, the spring went flying somewhere out of sight. Went ahead and replaced both sides since the dishwasher is about 20 years old, so if one side was weak enough to break, the other would soon follow. The only issue I ran into that was not addressed in the video was that the new counter top was installed long after the dishwasher was installed, so had to adjust the leveling legs in order to clear the counter top when trying to pull the dishwasher out of the cabinet. Once that was done, the video pretty much covered what I needed to know. Thanks!
