How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5988753 / W10837741 Lid Lock Strike

I ordered the parts from AppliancePartsPros on a Thursday and they arrived the very next day. My husband and I both had problems removing the old latch and as I couldn't find a video that pertained to this specific model washer, I called Appliance Parts Pros customer service number foe help. I wish I could remember the woman's name that helped me, but after she consulted with a clinician and couldn't get answers, she researched it herself, found the video, and talked us through the problem. She was fantastic! Top notch service all around. I could not be happier with our experience. 

Replaced door latch and switch. Parts are plastic so you must know what you are doing to avoid breaking new parts. Videos were hard to find for my model - eventually I found a video that addressed a different problem but required disassembly of a washer cabinet similar to mine. I removed the control panel using a putty knife and unplugged the wire to the latch switch. Then I remove 3 screws securing the washer's top panel to the back panel. Using a rubber mallet, I gently knocked the top panel forward so it could be lifted up and off the washer cabinet. After I removed the washer's top, it was very easy except the last step of removing the switch from the top. Another video search turned up the solution described in a previous post. Using a screwdriver, tap the switch to the right and it easily falls out of the opening in the machine top. Do the reverse to install the new switch. Everything else is straight forward and easy to figure out. 

Replaced the Latch.

New Lid Lock Assembly. 

I have 54 years repairing automobiles. The lid lock light was always on but the lid never locked, I decided the lock mechanism could have issues. I watched Appliance Pros video and changed it with no issues in about 20 minutes. All works well. Thanks Appliance parts Pro !

(We have a top loading Whirlpool high efficiency washer.) 

We got the parts and used the same video you show as a guide. Very simple. Took no more than 1/2 hour. The washer is back up and running like a champ. Thanks for the parts availability and the instructional video.
