How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5988753 / W10837741 Lid Lock Strike

Ordered the part, it was shipped promptly and repaired within a week. 

Replaced striker and latch parts came in on time and fitted perfectly. 

The latch was stuck locked on our Whirlpool top load washing machine. It would run fine, then the latch would get stuck shut and locked, making it impossible to access our clean clothes! A little bit of research revealed this is a pretty common issue and a very simple fix. I followed this tutorial and it was a super easy swap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7tXnwpL5Zo All in all, the repair took about 15 minutes. All you need is the right drivers to get the back panel off the machine, a putty knife, and a 6 point star screwdriver if you're also replacing the striker like we chose to. 

I ordered the parts through you they were here within 5 days. My son went on youtube & they explained what to do & told us that instructions were attached on checking how to find out the problem. Inside front panel of washer. Everything works perfectly. 

Replacing the strike and latch. 

I had broke my lid lock by my own impatience. The washer would not work without it so I went to YouTube to search for a solution and found one of the Appliance Parts Pros videos and so glad I did. They even had a link to buy the parts needed and were much less expensive than Maytag and Amazon. Unexpected Bonus - ordered and received it the next day! Followed the video and done in 15 mins. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!

Removed old and replaced with the new. 

15 min fix! 

We ran the error codes for the washer and came up with the parts we needed. It took approximately an hour to replace these parts. The washer works just like day one. I recommend doing this yourself if you like saving a couple of hundred dollars.
