How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3094463 / 285587 Washer Agitator Thrust Washer

We purchased the thrust washer, Direct drive couplings, and the agitator dogs. We wanted to make sure we fixed all the possible problems and were in a hurry to get the order in and shipped. After we took the machine apart and found that the problem was with the direct drive coupling. The new parts with the metal-reinforced plastic seem much stronger than the original part. The repair didn't take long. It was easy. Once again, appliance parts pro has saved us countless dollars and the inconvenience of replacing a washing machine!

Just like the video said, except our agitator bolt was rusted and stripped. I used 3 applications of regular WD 40; let each one sit several hours; then used the Irwin Bolt Extractor set and it worked like a charm. We needed the 10" 3/8 socket extension just like the video said as well. I ordered a new inner cap and seal. My old one was just looking a bit beat up. The seal ended up being too thick and I couldn't get it to seat properly but my old one was in ok shape so just put the old inner cap seal on the new inner cap. AppliancePartsPros.com rocks!!! 

With the help of the videos. 

We took the Agitator apart and the washer dogs were worn down to nothing. We cleaned everything up and put in the new Agitator Dogs. We filled the washer with hot water and about 4 cups of vinegar, and watched it work. It was churning the water, and I realized that it hadn't been doing that for several years! What a shocker! My washer is 20 years old and I "HAD" been looking for a new one - but not anymore! It works like new. By the way, I have to also thank the people on You Tube for their videos and repair tips! And of course, I thank Appliance Parts Pros for their super speedy delivery of my parts. Great Job! 

Ordered the long cam agitator repair kit and thrust washer and with the help of the repair videos was able to fix it 

I went to appliancepartpros.com, put in my model number, selected the problem, and looked at the different videos associated with that problem. It was obvious it would be a straight-forward, easy fix (I feared I'd have to take the washer drum out or something like that). Following their videos' instructions, I removed the upper agitator and discovered that all it took to fix my "dead" washing machine was $13 worth of parts (with shipping) and less than five minutes to replace those parts. Awesome! 

I used the parts recommended by the parts diagram.. 

I replaced the entire clutch assembly on my older Whirlpool washer. I watched the AppliancePartsPros “How-To” video numerous times before attempting the repair. While executing the repair, I had their video right there to actually walk me through the steps. Taking my time - the repair took me approximately 2 hours and now the washer spins as it should during it’s spin cycle. I found the video to be extremely helpful in doing this repair! Thank you!
